I have some yard work and sodding to do. I was thinking of an inexpensive fixed blade under $20.

Cold steel has a few I was thinking of:

Roach belly for around $12
Maybe the Canadien knife for around $12 - but new graham seems to be out of them

Do you have other suggestions?

The Gerber Brush Thinner works well for all sorts of yard applications. I have used mine to cut sod, clear brush, etc. You can find them on sale online in the 20 dollar price range if you look,

SMKW has the Shrade Extreme Survival for 18 bucks. If you can get over the made in China thing, they are good knives. Very heavy blade. Heavier than a USMC Kabar. I use mine often.

Check out the Cold Steel Bushman. It's a hell of a knife for right around $20, and it will handle abuse like few knives I've ever seen.

The mini bushman is discontinued , the bowie style would be great in the yard . I have seen them for > $15 just can't remeber where.

I don't know the name of this tool but I think it's called a Japanese Garden Knife. It's a spear pointed blade with serrations on one side. Their logo is a rabbit inside an oval. We love it.

i got a roach belly and use it allmost everyday during eating

very sharp and it stays very sharp

but seems kinda small for gardening

If you are looking for something small, I would suggest the Frosts Mora Clipper (availible in carbon or stainless for around $10).

If you want something a little bigger you can get the full sized Bushman for around $20 (I think it was the mini Bushaman that was discontinued).

Or if you need a machete, you can get a Tramontina for around $6, though it will need to be sharpened.
