Hello,
I'm looking for a SMALL, pocket sized guide to wild edible plants. I have several large ones now, but often end up in the woods without them due to size.
Any recommended titles?
thanks Much
JB

Personally, I have three separate collections of playing cards with good color pictures of plants, the descriptions, uses, etc. Even with all three there is SELDOM that the plants in the field are easy to identify with the use of the three sets of pictures alone.

My personal experience has been that several field guides; including the very nice Audobon Guides; are needed, plus personal experience and best of all some hands-on, pick-um and eat-um, courses.

Make certain to take the courses in your goeographical areas of interest. For instance one of the very good "weed eating" courses in New Jersey or New York will not give you the identification skills for Northern California plants, etc.

You don't have any personal data here Boyscout... what part of the earth are you interested in doing your "weed eating" in? :)

Thanks for the reply
I'm in Pennsylvania. I'd love to find a "pick-um and eat-um course " but I don't know where to find one.
I should probably put "rapidly aging boyscout" as my username"
I have noticed that most of my guides, including the audobon, are leave me wishing for better descriptions.

JB, Are you the same JB I know from the Primitive Skills List?

My mother has a pocket guide that I always threaten to steal. It's called Nature Bound Pocket Field Guide, by Robert Blazier. It's rather small, but chock full of good info and clear color photos. It also discusses to a limited extent some other outdoor survival techniques.

Thanks for the info.
Mr Hudson, I'll eventually get into one of those classes. I can't find the location in the edibleplants.com site though.
coyotlviejo, I'm going to check on Amazon for that title.
Thanks again,
I'll take any other suggestions also, keep em coming.
JB
