Need Folder as a Companion for Colt 1911

I've been using a Spyderco Endura 98 as a folder when carrying my Colt Gov't 1911. After getting a Livesay Custom Air Assualt the Endura seems "wimpy" and I'm now in the market for a good solid folder to acompany my 1911.

I'm thinking about the Spyderco Military, what other folders under $125.00 should I look at????

the military is a great knife. any of the larger spyderco's would serve you well. however, i am inclined to recommend the BM 750 pinnacle. it's a great knife and judging by your choice of a 1911, it would seem that you would like to stick with metal in your knife. i'm not trying to imply anything, but its just a trend i've noticed. anyway, it has a titanium handle, a great blade shape and the lock is simple and robust, just like your colt.

feel free to take any advice given here. a venerable panel will give you lots of advice. but among that the best will be, go to a knife shop and buy what feels the best.

Shrike-

I carry the 1911 too. Just carrying it makes EVERYTHING else seem "wimpy". So, you're probably a big feller, wear baggier clothes, or aren't concerned with who sees your gov't model. But just because you carry a heavy pistol doesn't necessarily mean you want or need a heavy folder. I you plan on using a folder to protect your pistol hand, the Endura is perfect, light enough to get out in a hurry, substantial enough to raise a hurtin' on the BG that would try to grab your pistol.

I've been looking loningly lately (say that three times fast!) at the Bob Terzuola Starmate. Oh, it looks sweet, and the perfect match for my Kimber. It is just out of your price range, though. I would also wholeheartedly recommend the Benchmade 710 Axis. Some folks have complained of quality problems from Benchmade. That really gets me. Mine's perfect. The blade sits exactly in the handle in the closed position (not to the left or right, as I'[ve read here). And it flicks open faster than castor oil through a goose, and locks tight as a drum. AND, I bought in new in an online auction, to boot! Oh well, maybe I got lucky.

Anyway, I digress. Those are my recommendations for a companion for your 1911. But there are other considerations that must be considered as well, yes? For example, you may find yourself in a situation where carrying a longer (three inches plus) blade is, shall we say imprudent? And, under those circumstances, a shorter blade would be necessarry. Maybe a Cold Steel Vacquero? I don't have any experience with this particular steel, and will have to defer to our more experienced forumites.

My two cents.

One of the higher end Benchmades, Spydercos or Emersons that you find most comfortable with the blade style you like. At the very least it would be a good place to start.

I like my Colt Commander and Spyderco Wegner.

Another vote for the BM #710.
Or maybe the new BM #42 Balisong with a 4.2 inch weehawk blade if you got the swing.
For $200 I would get a MT L-UDT.

If I carry the Combat Commander, IWB, I go with the Emerson Commander! That makes it a Commander/Commander set.....They are both finished the same too! G10/G10....
Now, if I carry the P.O.P14, It goes in my "Fanny Pack" I usually carry a fixed blade in a horizontal sheath on the Fanny pack belt.
If either combination isn't enough to handle any situation.......My number must be up anyway

The BM-710 goes great with the 1911. I really like the totally ambi attributes.

Thanks for the replies, timing could not be better for this. I'm going to try and get a BM-710 in BF's fire sale

Colt CCO, litewt. Commander on an officers frame, the frame is forged aluminum laced with titatanium and stocked with 230 gr fed hydra shocks. As for late I have been carrying a CS XLG Voyager either serrated clip or plain tanto. Both cut like straight razors. Waiting on delivery of a CS Gunsite XLG. The CCO is without a doubt the best ccw gun I have ever carried. One of you fellas said if you carry a big gun you probably don't mind letting people see you are carrying a big gun. Well in NYS that is a very big no-no. The whole point of cc is not to let anyone know you are carrying. keep'em sharp
