Hello,

I'm looking for a good folding knife for light - moderate use, but need help. I have an old Boker I use for EDC and I have decided to upgrade. Have been researching a bunch online and Spyderco gets the best reviews. I don't know much about knives and need help picking one. Questions:

Steel - VG10 vs. S30V/35VM vs. ZDP 189 ???
Blade edge - would like a combo blade but don't see many options
Grip - G - 10 or something similar is preferable
Locking mechanism - don't know much about this

Folders I like:
Endura - C10FG or C10GRE
Para 2 - C81G
Native - C41BK
Stretch - C90 BK or GRE
Manix 2 - C101 G
Caly - C144 G
Gayle Bradley - C134 CF

What do you think?

I think it is a good question, but the wrong folks to be asking. General Discussion would be a place to move this one. Welcome to Bladeforums, enjoy

Stretch for the win I love mine that I got from caseguy and its flawless the vg10 and s30v steels have been reported to have a thing for chipping I don't think its an issue for me the one chip ive put in my stretch sharpened out after about 3 passes on my ceramic sharpener

Check out the ontario rat 1. You seem to like the larger knives and this is a heck of a knife for the money. Its better quality than my delicas but cost less. It has a plastic type handle that I think feels alot like g10 but is not very grippy. I heard it is the same stuff they use on glocks.

I have all the knives on your list. I would start with the Gayle Bradley if you can deal with non stainless. If you would like stainless steel my choice would be the para 2 with some fancy steel.

Combo edge is usually a bad choice. Plain edge is better. If you know how to sharpen knives then get whatever steel has the attributes you like. Vg10 will be easiest of those 3 in terms of wear resistance.

what would you be using the knife for?
preference on size, weight?
how about price, got a limit?
I've fallen in love with ZT lately, then again I love me a beefy folder.
