i was wondering what type of flux material to use for forge welding.also does a forge need 2 burners? my forge has 2 but if i dont need them both, im going to rob one and use it to make another forge. there isnt a brand name on them so i cant tell you what size they are
thanks:confused:

I use anhydrous borax. There may be other fluxes but I know mine works. I mix about 5% boric acid (roach proof) with mine.

You can have as many or as few burners as you want but the forge temp must reach 2300 degrees to forge weld.
Hope this helps

I use plain ole borax, 20 mule team type. If I have time to do it I'll put a thin layer on a disposable cookie sheet and place it in the oven for a few hours at 250 degrees, this gets the excess water out so it doesn't foam as much. Can't help you with the burners, at the present I'm strictly coke forging. Happy forging. T

Mike, it sounds like your first forge was designed for two burners (maybe a NC?). My .02 cents worth says that one forge, with two burners (as it was designed) is much better than two forges with one burner each. This is especially true if you're going to be making welds in the current two burner forge.
