Yup, I would need some advice on the mini AFCK.
I have the opportunity to get a brand new serrated one for $36 from a dealer in Sweden. My dear forumites, please let me have your opinion regarding this knife. Should I go for this bargain?

I realize that it costs quite a bit more, but I would take a good look at the Spyderco Wegner Jr. Before I bought the Wegner Jr., I looked at the mini-afck. The Wegner Jr. fit my hand better and the stainless steel spacer gives the knife more heft. Also, the Wegner Jr. will serve me better while hunting. I don't have anything against Benchmades--I own two (330 and 705)but the mini-afck just barely lost out to the Wegner Jr. The only problem with the Wegner Jr. is that they have been discontinued and are hard to find.

Mini-AFCK at that price is a deal. The 812 M2 is a plus. Altho the 812S in ATS34 is a great unit. Good size for everyday, pocket or clip use. The blade design is good.
I give it a positive review.

The one i had in mind is the standard 812s mini AFCK, serrated edge. ATS-34 steel. Any one who knows if the liners are made of steel or titanium? And come on, more opinions please!

I'm pretty sure the liners are steel.

Thats an excellent deal. I did most of the mod's on my mini-AFCK with sandpaper. Some I used a dremel. It makes a difference.

The Mini AFCK is one of my perennial favorites. It would be even more so if I had smaller hands. Coincidentally, I have been carrying my 812HS all week. I love it.

The liners are stainless steel on the Mini. I don't care for serrations on such a short blade, but a lot of people do.

The mini-AFCK is a great small-to-medium-sized knife. To me, it's not as comfortable as the full-sized AFCK, but you can't really lose. One thing, for me at least, the opening hole is small and the knife is difficult to one-hand open. However, I plan on adjusting the pivot screw. Mine is the plainedge BT2 coated one.

I've been carrying/using my Mini-AFCK for almost three years now. I love it so much I've given three others away as gifts. Great knife (IMO).

I'd say, absolutely, go for it! The mini's got the 410 stainless liners that actually wear slower than the titanium as evidenced by my M2 full-sized AFCK that's been through the ringer in the course of about four months (the liner's almost all the way over to the right now). The Wegner's liners are the same material (I'm pretty sure, someone jump in here if I've fo-paed), but the beauty of the AFCK is that it can be easily taken completely down (despite the warranty) and customized, cleaned, what have you. As well, it has double liners whereas the Wegner has only the locking liner. Sure some will argue that the solo G10 liner on the Wegner's enough, but to me it's kind of like that commercial where the guy's holding and shaking the lady's fish upside down in the plastic bag without the Gripper Zipper.

You'll like it. In fact, Benchmade guarantees it. I know of a few people around here who have been toting one since their inception without a gripe.

It's a good knife, but the pocket clip cuts across the notch in the handle (for the liner lock), and cuts into your finger during regular use. Some modification is necessary.

The deal in question was only regarding the serrated version. I prefer plain edged blades, though, but at this price... well

He had some large left handed Serrated AFCK:s as well (800SLH), for $43, and the black coated lefthanded version (800SBT-LH), for $46

Do a search here at bladeforums.com on AFCK and you will find dozens of threads, hundreds of posts, praising this knife.

I've said it before, but I will say it again. In a field that is as fashion-fickle as woman's shoes (and I know many guys who own more "tactical folder" knives than their wives own shoes), the AFCK has been an enduring favorite for about five years now.

Sales remain strong as this knife resists everything that dozens of competitors have offered against it. Very few "tactical folder" designs endure in the market as long as the AFCK has. It would not surprise me if the AFCK is one of the three best selling "tactical folders" ever made.

Very few simple folding knives have inspired the loyalty that the AFCK has. I've carried one for getting on five years now. I've bought others, tried others, but the AFCK remains in my pocket.

There are three reason this knife has done so well in such a tough market: 1) it's a great design, 2) Benchmade builds 'em really well, and 3) It's a great value for the price at it's usual street of around $90 (for the mini).

If you can get one for $36, I'd jump on that.

James Y,
That is the one thing I also had a problem with on the mini-AFCK. The small opening hole. I did my own mod to fix it. I used a piece of inner cord from 550 cord, wrapped it around the top of the opening hole, and painted the white string black with a Sharpie pen, and "voila" much easier to open. The string gives it some width, and texture to snag it. Works great.

It has arrived!

The action is oh so smooth

But I am planning on polishing the pivot pin and the blade tang to improve it even more. You know, the same way as the "Bob Kasper AFCK".

I am buying a Dremel tool as soon as I see one. It is great fun to polish and customising folding knives.
