Hey guys, Im taking a trip down to Florida in February. Im in Montreal, its a great city but gear stores and brands are limited here (language laws and other B.S). Just wondering if anyone knew of any good gear shops down there, Ft Lauderdale, Hollywood, Hallendale area. Lemme know please and thank you.

There is a large Bass Pro Shops in Dania (between Ft Laud and Miami) right off of I-95 on the Griffin Road exit. There is another one in Miami but it is much smaller than the one in Dania with a lot less gear selection.

Some locals would say so due to the large numbers of French Canadians in that general area :D

I've always managed to get back home safely from there as have most tourists.

HardTripper, is a safe area just don't get hit by a commuter train (Tri-rail) There is also the IGFA (International Game Fishing Association) I want to say museum in the same parking lot.
Don't waste your time going to Sawgrass Mill Mall.

If you want to play with things that go bang try this place http://www.bigalsguns.com/ it is in a bad part of town but the locals leave the patrons alone. It keeps em from getting shot at:eek:

Also do not miss 15th Street Fisheries (Restaurant) and Rustic Inn (blue crabs Restaurant). And its still technically lobster season (spiny no claws) while you are down there. Alsop check out http://www.floridastateparks.org/lloydbeach/ there are some decent nature trails there.

I'll second this one! Tucked in the back of a nice mall with several other good shops around and some great restaurants too! I was just in there last month and was pleasantly surprised. While they don't stock a whole lot of cold weather clothing (not much need in So.Florida) the store is huge, with an incredible variety of equipment for sale. It reminds me of Cabelas! It was hard getting out with my wallet intact!

Yeah, I've been to this Bass Pro quite a few times and I think I never left emptyhanded...

Hmmm, good to know (about the Bass Pro). I go to Ft Lauderdale usually once a year and have never gone to that location. I do hit up Saw Grass Mills on every trip though! While there aren't really any good gear stores there it's a great place for deals on clothing and other stuff.
Any other tips on local gear stores, like Maxpedition suppliers, etc?
