Someone just gave me a Dell 1703FPs monitor, and I have it hooked up to my laptop.

The images are now streeeetched vertically.

How can I change it so their perspective is correct??

Is your laptop wide screen? Is the new monitor wide screen as well? I suspect your laptop is wide screen and new monitor is not. Your display settings are set for a wide screen and the images are getting stretched when displayed on regular monitor. Change your display settings to 1024x768 just to test this. If it looks right on your new monitor, play around with the higher resolutions until you get what you want.

I'll assume it is a PC. Go to the desktop, and rightclick anywhere. Choose 'properties', then choose the 'settings' tab.

You have an array of available resolution settings to choose from. Try something other than what is default for the laptop system.

You may have adjustments on the Dell which can correct skewed placement, too. I'm not familiar with the specs.
