I'm actually planning ahead, here !

I turn 50 in March of 2008.

Some hog took #50 for their ASH-1 LE, so I had to take choice number 2....no regrets and all that !

Anyway, while I've made sure that I get a special gift, my wife grimaced when she saw the price. Bottom line is, I'll be getting the LE for myself, which is fine........mostly.

Meanwhile, I need ideas for a special gift for the wife and kids to get me. I'm thinking the most it can cost is $200.

Ideas ?

.

As a custom sheath maker, I'd hate to charge my wife and kids for one !!

;)

I know you do kydex, but I didn't know if you did leather work. I was just thinking about something along the lines of the sheath the PBubsy had with his SHBM he sold recently. (Looks like it's in the hands of Border Shift now. )

I say buy yourself another CG ASH-1, and let your Wife buy you the HOG knife for $167;)

A ChuddyBear dangler would go real nice with that blade. It'll cost quite a bit less than $200 even with all the options. And he might get it done before your b-day.

Or if you want a bomb-proof Nylon/Kydex go with Semper Paratus. Dan does some sweet work. It may take a while but it's worth it.

Does it need to go with the knife? Or can it be unrelated? On the related front, a nice sharpening set up maybe? The swamp store has some stuff in right now too...

I guess maybe im just missing something... cause their seems to me way to many choices.

The idea of custom leather for your knife is not a bad one, I think Leatherman might be able to do one for under two hundred dollars, or close to it if you want a real nice one. The idea of getting leather for your sheath is up to you.

If you want to get away from moodex and have them buy something different for you, a little .22 plinker that you can have fun with wouldn't be a bad thing. Make sure that it is cooler than it is functional. Or at least has some novelty to it.

How do you know who has what # ASH-1 LE? All I saw was who had the #1 LE.

Was there a list or something?

Yes, there are too many choices.

I'm hoping for something that I could use often, if not every day. I thought of a special Sebenza, but I've owned 3 and sold them all. They don't quite do it for me. Besides, they cost too much.

Maybe a gun related item, but again, cost is an issue.

Maybe the HOG knife would be an easier sell........aside from the fact that I already got one coming !

I do not know who has #50, I only know that someone beat me to it.

That's ok, I went for my birthday instead.

I should add that as far as guns and knives go, I'm pretty well set. I don't "need" anything, really.

I'd like something my kids will remember decades from now as the gift they bought me for my 50th and that I always used it for _________.

For example, if they DID buy me an ivory Sebenza, I'd make that my EDC until I died. I'd rather have something I'll use over something that I take out of the safe once or twice a year to show to admire it, or to show someone who might care about such things.

My kids are already splitting up my knives and they are not even teenagers.

I had figured that you weren't lacking in firearms, that's why I suggested something that would be shot for pleasure and not training or competition, maybe even something that could be used to train new shooters, as they come along.

You aren't making this easy. I'd say a watch but most of the heirloom quality watches are going to have sales taxes above $200. There is always the pen, I am not a pen guy, so I don't know any of the high end brands that would be worthy of handing down, but I know that they are out there.

Maybe you could get them to buy you a half dozen engraved space pens and then you could hand them out to those closest to you and carry one yourself as a connection.
