Hey folks, I'm an Earthlink subscriber and have space available through my subscription for a web site. I've tried building it using Earthlink's site building program, Trelix, but I just can't get it work out right. I'll make a change to a page and it'll show up in the page Trelix sends me to but the change doesn't show up on the site I have stored in my favorites, even though they have the exact same url. I don't know what to do with it so I thought I'd see if someone here has used Trelix or knows of another site builder program they could suggest.
Thanks for any help you can give me!!

Hi --

First off, I've got to tell you that I've never used Trelix nor have I ever been an Earthlink subscriber, but I've made a bunch of web pages and I've had some dealings with Trelix through helping-out over at GeoCities for a few years.

From what I know about Trelix, it's a web page making program that you've downloaded and installed onto your computer, right? If that's still true of Trelix, then you are making the web pages, including your changes and edits, entirely upon your computer, rather than making them on an online web page making program. The difference between those two styles of programs is that if you make your web pages with an online web page making program, then you're making the pages at your host, using their software, and, as soon as you save that web page, it's immediately on the web, changes made. With Trelix, making web pages on your computer, you'll need to make your web pages and changes on your computer, then you need the additional step of uploading your web pages, and those to which you've made changes, into your account at Earthlink.

What I think is happening is that you're making your pages, or editing pages, and Trelix is showing you the new version that's stored on your computer. I believe that you haven't uploaded the changed web page to your Earthlink account, online, and that's why there's a difference between the preview that Trelix shows you, and the fact that the web page that you've changed/edited hasn't changed online. The version of your home page that is stored in your Favorites folder is the online version, and that wouldn't have changed if you haven't uploaded the edited/changed web page into your Earthlink account.

If this is the case, I'd contact Earthlink and ask for their advice and suggestions on uploading your files. Since I've never been a member of Earthlink, I'm not sure how their system works.

Hope this helps,
GeoThorn

I generally use a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) programme for making pages.
Lately I've used PHP Nuke as it has templates ,you pick the bits you want to include and then upload the lot to your webspace using FTP (File Transfer Protocol).
Something like CuteFTP will allow you send your stuff from your PC to the Host Computer/Server.
Best thing with PHP is you can add content and upload pics or whatever to the site using a control panel on the site, and there are loads of themes and templates to choose from,so most of the donkey work is done for you.You just let loose with the creative side to make your site more unique each time you add stuff.
You can add chat rooms and shop areas if your site gets bigger and your into that :)

Best of luck with it.
