Hi,

So my dad wants another knife. And it turns out I’m the only one that gets him knives lol.

What he is looking for in a knife;
1. Thick blade good for EDC
2. S35V Steel (or any steel comparable to s35v that retains an edge and is incredibly sharp.
3. Blade length 3” – 3.5”
4. Price range 100-275
5. Flipper with or without thumb studs
6. Linear lock
7. Ceramic ball bearings.

He has a good Kizer I got him years ago and loves it, I then made the mistake of buying him a cheap kershaw and now I CONSTANTLY hear about how it’s dull, and that his Kizer could cut through the kershaw’s blade “cause it’s crap steel” lol.

I appreciate all of your suggestions.

NO SPYDERCO knives I absolutely love the para line, but I’m not sure if he would be happy with it like I am happy with them.

Hope you are all well.
Thanks again,
– Jon

Quiet Carry IQ is my suggestion.

1. Not a super thick blade, but thick enough for any EDC task.
2. Elmax Steel (so in most cases better than S35VN)
3. 2.9" blade
4. $200
5. Flipper without thumbstuds
6. Technically a framelock, but sleeker than any liner lock you'll find
7. ceramic bearings.

I have one and this thing is gorgeous. Fidgety fun flipper, that can be an EDC or gentleman's knife. It comes razor sharp, and with the elmax steel it'll stay sharp a long time.

Kudos on being a great kid.

How about a James brand Carter XL, in micarta? Not like I've been eye'ing that exact combo or anything...

Or go ahead and break that Spyderco barrier with the best impression from a Southhard.

If you can find a WE Vapor...
It checks off all the boxes

That's the trouble with fathers. You're nice to them one crummy time, and they start to think that you care.

The full size Kizer sheepdog in 4v steel would be an interesting choice. The steel isn’t stainless but is otherwise superior to s35v. This is one of the steels used for custom competition chopping knives. Liner lock, thick stock, 3.3” blade, and a Kizer which he seems to like.

This is a retailer exclusive, but it’s in stock at the moment.

I was going to pipe in WE knives, but they grind their blades (especially recent ones) very thin. Not that they're fragile, they're just made for more slicing tasks. Give them a shot.

ZT would probably be your best bet, most are framelock, which is similar to a linerlock in actuation.

Bestech, Ruike, Artisan etc all make good linerlock premium knives as well. I'm not a big fan of their styling but they are pretty good values.

Too many knives to list lol, good luck!

Agree: they're thin: but tough!

The WE Seer is still available if you look. It is a limited edition with each being numbered out of the total made for that color. It is typical WE quality, which is excellent. The steel is 20CV, which is better than S35VN. The ergonomics are very good. The action is satisfying and runs on ceramic bearings. While I personally prefer a thinner blade for EDC, the 0.13" stock here is a very capable "medium".

Here is a picture of mine, which is 035 out of 420 for gray titanium. I think they made 600 or so of the black and blue models.
