Need help choosing a benchmade.

I am looking at the 950 Rift and the 710. I am looking for something that can be used outdoors, self defense, and utility. i have also looked at the spyderco manix xl but would rather get a benchmade. any help would be appreciated.

I have both and if I had to choose between them I'd go with the 950 Rift nine times out of ten. If you are willing to spend the money to get a 950 then I would highly recommend looking at the 810 Contego as well. Costs a bit more but it has M4 steel and a more grippy handle.

I have a 950 and think it is great. In fact it is in my pocket now....

Take a look at the Contego and the 275 Adamas. Both great knives.

Rift is an excellent knife. EDC for last couple years.

The 950 has arguably a more utilitarian blade shape, as it's an adept slicer. However, for self-defense purposes the 710 is more capable of stabbing someone through the head, which is particularly handy if we're talking about a zombie attack. Real life might result in legal complications, so slight edge goes to the Rift. Or Rift+gun, or Rift+pepper spray.

520/5000 or 275/2750 come to mind for self defense/outdoors use.
