Hi Guys, this is my first time posting in these forums so please bare with me.

I am in the market for a black colored folding knife (half-serrated). The models I was checking out are the SOG Night Vision (although I know its not in black, the titanium model looks very nice), Emerson Commander and the Spyderco Bob Lum.

Please let me know if there are any others that would fit the model and price range ($90-$150 on eBay) I am looking for. I particularly liked the Emerson for its thinness but it came off as too expensive for what I was getting.

Thanks!!!

Check out Cold Steel. In addition to their excellent Voyager line, they have a new model with what looks like an Axis-type internal lock. AUS8 is excellent cutlery steel IMHO, and CS prices are affordable.

if you are looking for a black blade coating the coolest one is Black boron carbide, the Titanium nitride based ones hold up well also. The most common black coating it BT, or black teflon, this coating protects the knife very well, but it will scratch ff much faster than the harder Boron carbide coatings.

For black handles you can get G10 (rugged glass laminet material, good grip, very common); Fiber glass renforced Nylon (Unlikely to ever break catostrophically, cheap, and rugged, also known as zytel among other things); Anodized Aluminum (my fav handle material, stiff strong, feels good, but scratches easily); Carbon fiber (strong, will scratch, very sexy handle material)

G10, plenty of good knives out there, cheack out benchmade, Spyderco, and Emerson, (note on the emerson commander, its sharpened on one side, so it is really good at somethings and not so good at others) Both the emersons and benchmades can be had with balck blades, all come with combo edge.

Zytel-spyderco does a great job with these knives.

Anodized Al, Microtech! (My favourite production company)

Carbon fiber, Often done for limmited editions, and found on many custom knives, but i recomend the microtech LCC.

Hi,

May i suggest the Emerson CQC7 ? either in tanto or spear, the tanto is available with the wave feature which makes it the quickest folrding knife anywhere, a big plus for me.

Small and easy to carry, there's even a mini version of it, and it's so cute :)

Good luck and let us know what you decided on in the end.

i like my commander alot better than my lum ti tanto for what its worth, nothing wrong w/it, just like the commander better, that wave is something.....

look at benchmade 710 and axis AFCK (806 i think) the new axis AFCK rules imho, a great knife, and the 710 is the bomb tooo

I have and would recommend several of the knives already suggested to you. The Commander can be bought at many online dealers at much less than the MSRP, and is worth every penny. It is the one knife other than my SAK that I carry everyday.
The 806D2 AFCK with Axis lock is a great knife design with improved steel and lock.
Any Spyderco knife is a good choice.
A 710HSBT is a excellent all-purpose knife.
One more knife you might consider is a Al Mar SERE 2000 with black blade. It is a well designed knife with VG-10 steel.

LizardKing-you forgot to mention Rostiorri??, the Pakistan mystery steel in the not good list.;)
