Hi, i was looking at trying to edc a fixed blade instead of a folder. I cant seem to make up my mind about it though, i was looking at the izulas 1&2 or the spartan phobos or enyo. I have no experience with spartan blades but i hear they are good. I want something small but usefull, Im not sure how i want to carry it yet but id prefer to carry it in pocket or as a neck knife. Open to any suggestions, my pricepoint is around $200 but willing to pay more if the knife is just that good.

I got a ka-bar BK14 and it's nice but the sheath dulls the blade so I have to order some kydex for it. I just ordered a boker plus mosier based on a recommendation from here. it has positive reviews. hard to go wrong with the izula but I personally don't like blades that short.

Take a look at the Bark River City Knife or the Essential. Not my knives, grabbed some pics off the 'net.

Essential.

I carry a Landi PSK in a neck sheath a lot. Full size handle is comfortable in hand, rugged knife, takes a good edge. Might be a little large for pocket carry. I have tried knives with really short handles and they didn't work for me.

Look in the for sell by maker forum, some great knives available well within your budget. You could even contact a maker that makes knives you like and have one made for you and still stay within your budget.

Also check out the custom knives for sell area.

I just got a BRKT Mini-Canadianan in 3V, I so far I like it a lot. Big enough blade for everything I need it to do, but small enough to carry easily and not make a rukus when I use it.

I don't like stuff hanging off my neck so for carry the pocket is my choice.

For my manner of dress, relaxed fit jeans and cargo pants/shorts, an AOL of 7" is the max for comfortable sitting. I like the handle length to be ~ 4". A blade length of ~3" does pretty much everything I need a knife to do.

With a limit of $200 you have a great selection of knives out there. So I'll through the Fallkniven WM1 out there as one choice that suit you very well.

If you are sure of want you want for handle, blade length, materials etc.... a custom designed by you could be an option.

If not there are plenty of production knives in the $60ish range that will allow you to sample a few to see what works for you. Just sell/trade off the ones that don't thrill you.

Since you are just giving this type of knife a try I wouldn't spend the $200 all at once. You never know, a pocket fixed might not be your cup of tea.

For sometime now my favorite EDC has been a Swamprat Rodent Solution. A .187 x 3.5" blade of SR101, 8.125" o.a.l. Available in several color combos for 123.00 shipped. A great value for a very comfortable handle, edge retension, and lifetime warranty. You have to buy a sheath seperatly but that gives you the option of leather or kydex(on their site) or custom.

check the JK knives "bad economy" line in his subforum or the backwood customs & KFU subforum here on BF -- all 3 of these guys are great to deal with and if they don't have something already done that you like, they're taking orders for January delivery, so you wouldn't have a long wait.
If you need something to tide you over until the custom is done, a cord wrapped Izula fits comfortably in a front pocket -- the Izula 2 will also, but not as comfortably if you spend a lot of time sitting or crouching. BK14 has the same problem as the Izula 2 -- but is otherwise a great knife.

Don't forget about Blindhorse knives, the frontier valley patch knives are great knives, I got one for a friend for just general carry while camping, but it is small enough to use everyday.
