I just finished up this full tang EDC for a fellow in New Zealand and I'm having trouble figuring out what style to make the sheath. Typically, I do a pouch style sheath like this;

Here is the knife in question;

I have a few of this style under my belt (pun intended), but I want to get some other peoples opinions before I start working on it.
I'm also curious about what you guys think about where I cut off the top of the sheath on the sheath pictures above. I feel like I cut it a little short, leaving a bit too much handle showing, but I thought it was necessary to get a decent grip on the knife when pulling the knife out. Opinions?

Thanks for your time and insight,
Tanner S.

I prefer to make my pouch type sheaths on the deep side, just a preference. Others results and preferences vary.

Now on that second knife, if it were me working the sheath I'd probably go with a Randall style pouch sheath. That is the style where its sewn up both sides. Like this:

Again, thats just my preferences talking.

Yep I agree a pouch sheath for that knife. Not a lot of contour to it. Like Dwayne I'd probably go a little higher.

Alright, sounds like I'm doing a pouch sheath. After talking to the customer about the sheath, he asked me to put button snaps on the belt loop for easy removal. Is there anything I need to know before I do this? Are there smaller snaps available for this type of thing? I think I have 5/8" snaps, but perhaps two smaller snaps would be better...

I usually prefer a sheath that covers the centre of gravity of the knife and that knife doesn't seem that long so I think it may be best to go with a pouch or pancake. If you are going with a pouch sheath my vote is on going with the butterfly. Its got the wide mouth for easy sheathing and it hugs the blade tightly like a stack sheaths. Have fun making the sheath! :)

Hahaha, Thanks! I'll take the butterfly style sheath into consideration. I still have to finish homework before I can get to designing it...
