Thinking about getting my first hinderer XM 18 3.5. We'll my second(gave away my first hinderer the day I got it) I have a choice between slicer grind or spanto grind according to rickhindererknives. Anyone can tell me the pros and cons of each blade type and which one they prefer? THANKS GUYS! Don't ask what I use my knives for LOL i just want your take on it.

Geez! How many times has this been answered before. Get both! Duh! (Just kidding by the way ;) )

:D Sorry, just had to say it before someone else did. Both is always the easy answer! :D In all seriousness though. All Hinderers are tough as nails. I'm personally a slicer guy, but it's just a personal preference. I'm currently on the hunt for a Spanto because I want one of each in my collection.

Hiya.......if you do a search within the forum there are quite a few threads about this already........but to boil it down.......the spanto has a beefier tip.......the slicer will get through cardboard or a banana slightly smoother due to the blade geometry.......both are incredibly well built, very dependable, beautiful XMs......
The spanto is the iconic Hinderer Grind so many will say SPANTO
The slicer surprisingly is a slightly better.......slicer......so some will say SLICER......
In the end........they are both awesome.......choose the one that looks better to you.........then get the other one later........
That's what most do......
That's what I did......a few times......:D

Thanks for the heads up! I really appreciate it. I'm leaning more towards spanto right now. I love slicer grind of my zt 0562 cf my edc right now. But I want to try something new. I decide to sell all my knives and just have one hinderer and one sebenza 21 that's coming this Friday! Why not get a spanto. You can't beat a hinderer for 385$. Now that is a deal.

If you already have a collaboration slicer might as well go w/ Spanto on the real deal...it's an excellent place to start.

^^This. I already had a collaboration ZT0566 slicer so went with the spanto. Very happy with the decision.

That's what I'm about to do. You guy know how it takes to get a xm18 from rick hinderer website?

I vote for spanto, to me it is the flagship xm-18. I can't wait to get one in the upcoming direct sale opportunity

Depends what you're using the knife for. I personally don't really 'hard use' any of my knives so the spanto (although it's what I think of when I think hinderer) doesn't appeal to me. I personally love the wharnie in a 3" out of all his production styles. If you need that extra robustness because you feel like you might want to open a can of corn using nothing but your knife, maybe get a spanto. Otherwise, I think I'd get a slicer.
