Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and could do with some advice . I currently edc a leatherman freestyle (Modified the lock to remove it) or juice XE6 along with a spyderco Kiwi. Being in the UK we can't EDC lock knives which sucks so don't have any fixed blades or dedicated locking folders. I now need something much more substantial for Hiking and camping as the knives I have just don't quite "cut it" (sorry couldn't help myself ). Planning on doing gutting, battoning and some other heavier duty cutting tasks. Basically I just need a knife that can take a bit of a beating that isn't going to let me down. My budget is £100 max including a sheath, unless its a folder.

Spent the past couple of days going through the website and these are the ones I have found. What are your thoughts guys, which is likely to be the best suited or does anyone else have any other recommendations? Thanks

Magnum Sierra Foxtrot III
Schrade Extreme Survival F10
Fox Exagon
Boker Plus Knives Shark
Boker Plus RBB Fixed
Blackhawk Tatang
Bear Grylls Ultimate Pro
TOPS Knives C.A.T.
Boker Plus Ridgeback
Boker Plus Exodus

Stay away from the BG knife. It isn't a bad knife, but the other knives you have listed are better than it by a large margin. If you want a good hiking/camping knife look at the KA-BAR Becker line. They are cheap (around $70 USD) and some of the best built production knives for the money.

The Becker line is great, I just got an ESEE 5 and I love it, the blade stock on it was much thicker than I thought it would be.

15" Ang Khola by Himalayan Imports. Great all around camp knife. Draw cut, baton, chop, slice.

Becker BK2. I have read glowing reports about this knife for years, and finally bought one. I think I might use it to tear down an old concrete and steel building out in back. Won't hurt it one bit.

Thanks for the reply everyone. What about the Fox and RBB these were two of my favorites, how are they likely to compare to the Becker?

Boker and Fox are inferior in steel type and sometimes in fit&finish(for the price, theyre really expensive for what they are). Becker D'Eskabar in D2 or Spyderco UKPK for EDC. For woods use, I HIGHLY recommend any Condor knives, Tramontina or Imacasa machetes, Cold Steel Bushman, and the more expensive Beckers, ESEE, and Fallkniven. Condor, Tram, Imacasa, and Cold Steel products can be had for cheap and often outperform much more expensive gear.

Check this guy out. He's an authority on machetes and cheaper hard use tools on this forum, under the name FortyTwoBlades. If you ask nicely, I bet he wouldn't mind customizing an item before you order it as part of his Special Grade service.

In my opinion a good reliable knife is a Frank B. automatic stiletto bayonet 11" blade i got mine off (( not a paid BF Dealer )) with $6 priority shipping. But in the UK automatics may be illegal due to parliments dumb weapon laws

Any of the recommended brands (besides "Knife Thrower 1" deal spotting on his first post) will far surpass Boker, Gerber, Fox, or the other brands you mentioned.

Go Becker. You won't regret it.

where are my manners, here is the link to the knife you can also get these in many configurations. (( not a paid BF Dealer ))

Deal Spotting. And Auto Stilettos (even ones that are fancier than $6) are not the same as heavy duty bushcraft knives.

Stop deal spotting! And the OP wants a fixed blade, not an auto! Plus, he said that locking knives were illegal!

I really, REALLY want to see someone baton with that...;)

If you are going to be batoning you may need two knives. A large heavy fixed blade that will take punishment and a smaller knife for everything else. For a smaller knife, you can't go wrong with a Mora Knife, and a larger ESEE or Becker for batoning.

An EnZo Brisa PK70 if you can find one/get one there would be a good choice for a slippie to fit your use. Its got beautiful carbon fiber scales and a scandi ground S30V blade. Its smaller, not sure if you mentioned a size (2.75") but its a good knife that fits your [silly] laws.

Size wise I'm looking for something less than 6"
Cereal_Killer that knife looks really good for EDC, might upgrade to it from my Kiwi once I get my next paycheck.
