So a couple months ago i purchased a kme with diamond stones. Its worked great so far, but the biggest grit that it came with was 140. I'm looking to get a couple stones that are more abrasive then this. Looking at it for about 50 bucks i can buy diamond 50 and 100 grit stones. Or for 25 bucks i can get a 60, 120, 320, 1000 grit ceramic stones. Will the ceramics work on some of these super steels, being that they are bigger grit?

I want them mainly for re profiling, with that said i have painstakingly already done all my knifes! Should of looked into it sooner haha. But have been sharpening a lot of friends knives lately, which are usually your typical middle of the line steels. Any advice would be welcomed, thanks!

get the 50 grit diamond from KME. they also have 100Grit if you dont want to skip directly to 140.

ceramic is good for certain steel but id use diamond for the lower grits. the ceramics are better for higher grit polishing from what ive seen.

KME has a FAQ http://www.kmesharp.com/faqknsh.html

Go with the diamonds, the ceramic stones will be too slow. The ceramic stones will most likely differ in thickness, which will force you to change your setting on the KME to compensate. The diamond stones should all be the same thickness.
