Need help choosing!

Hey guys,

I'm in a little bit of a pickle here. I can't decide on what knife to get for myself. These are my choices:

1. Ontario Rat 1 D2 w/ CF scales
2. Cold Steel Spartan
3. Kizer Bolt G-10

All of these knives run around the same price here where I'm from. So any other suggestions wouldn't really be useful since there's a limited amount of blades here and prices vary. The use of my the blades aren't an issue as well since I'm a software developer so I rarely get the chance to use it. It's more of just something to play with and look at. I just got myself an Spyderco Endura and I think one more blade would keep me at bay Atleast for a couple of months. Hahaha.

I would vote kizer, rat a close second. I really don't like d2 steel. Its really good stuff but a serious PITA to sharpen in my experience.

Try these titanium kizers for only a couple more dollars.

No can do with that suggestion. The only shop that sells kizers here have the titanium versions almost double in price against their g-10 counterparts. My choices are on the list provided only.

This is what sucks from where I'm from. By the time the blades get here, the prices doubles due to all the shady figures in our customs.

I would grab the Rat 1 in D2. Better edge retention and is probably one of the best slicers out there!

Id still vote kizer. Their vg10 is awesome. Very nice knives. Kind of comes down to what you like. Vg10 doesn't have retention like d2 but is much easier to sharpen. Also depends on which appearance you like.

I've owned many kizer and have never been disappointed!

If we were to base it on looks, Kizer wins. I guess I'm just kinda divided since the Rat is a Limited Edition and it would take ages before another one pops up here. The CS Spartan however is just more of a novelty. I remember wanting it so bad when I was still 14.

Hey worst case scenario you can flip a coin :D

Maybe someone else will chime in and sway you one way or the other, but id definitely say its between the kizer and rat :)
 
I can't speak to the others you've mentioned, but I have the RAT-1 in D2 with CF/G10 (model 8884CF). It's nice to have, but IMO not something to use. It's heavier, less comfortable - and I'm not convinced I'd like D2 over AUS-8 as steel in a user knife. Full disclosure, though - I prefer the Avispa/Zancudo over either RAT. Those are available with CF/G10 scales as well, though, and based on my 8884CF RAT-1 I think I'll give them a miss. As user kinves. Then again, the scales are pretty... Hmmm...

2. Kizer
and a distant 3rd.. CS. Manly do to looks (my opinion of course). Not a fan of grivory compared to other handle choices. Worst steel of the 3 imo too. Depending on the size of your hand, that handle might not be comfortable. I prefer a more "generic" handle shape.
 
Hey guys I decided not to pull the trigger and instead wait a month to make the difference for a PM2. I saw a PM2 first hand and it just grew on me but I was also able to hold a Manix 2. So that's another issue. Haha!

Well, see? Live and learn like the rest of us. Wait a bit and get the best. Sometimes it's best NOT to jump.
p.s. where you're from must suck as far as customs goes.
