Hey all, I think I have finally gathered the big pieces to build myself a better grinder (I use a hf 4x36" now, it sucks btw ) I have a kalamazoo 2x48" sander and a century 2 hp 230v motor. Im not sure if the motor works or not, but id like to find out. Lol. The motor came on an old craftsman air compressor that I scrapped because it had a seized compressor. The power cord had broken off, but it needs to be replaced anyways because the insulation is worn off of the wires where they go through the chassis of the motor.

If you can't tell already, my question is about the motor. It looks like there should be 3 wires hooked up to the board inside, but the cable that goes through to the board only has 2. There are three labeled terminals on the board though. I haven't been able to find a wiring diagram online despite searching for over an hour.

Id be forever grateful if someone could shed some light on how to wire this thing up so I can start making some sparks!

FWIW if its an open compressor duty rated motor its probably not going to last very long on a grinder. :(

Most likely, on a 220VAC motor, there will be two wires to the motor and a ground wire to the frame.
A photo of the terminal board will help. If the terminals are labeled L1 L2 those are where the wires go.The third may be labeled G for ground. If it is a standard 220VAC single voltage motor, normally there are terminals labeled 1-4-5-8. You connect one lead to 1,8 and the other to 4,5 for CCW rotation, or 1,5 and 4,8 for CW . If there are only two power input terminals the 1 and 4 are probably internal, so reversing the two power leads will reverse the motor. Once you identify the ground terminal, the wiring should be simple.
If the motor is a capacitor start motor, as many compressors have, there should be other terminals and wires involved. Are the wires currently connected, or have you already unplugged them from the board?
Lastly, most motors have a wiring diagram on the plate or the inside of the box cover. If not, use the motor number to look up the terminal diagram.

Here are a couple of pics that may help

I talked to a couple of guys @ work today and they said it should be hook the 2 power wires to "4"&"5" and the ground to the chassis of the motor. Does that sound correct?
