Hi All,

Need some help getting the dimensions of the bronze washers commonly used in many CS folders i.e. Recon 1, American Lawman, Rajah III, Ultimate Hunter etc. Most of them use the same bronze+teflon combo. Does anyone know or have tool to help measure the thickness and diameter for the washer?

I got a new ultimate hunter and the teflon washers had been torn off due to wear and friction. Most CS folders works fine when you removed the teflon layer(i've done it for 60+ CS folders) but this particular knife have a bit too much space and needed a double washer otherwise it will have bad side to side blade play even when the pivot is tightened all the way. I cannibalize the washers from other CS folder and added to the new knife and it worked perfectly. Now i don't have spare...

Side note - does @coldsteelknives send out replacement washers part, or do i have to send my knife in? If not, does anyone know where to buy the paper-thin bronze washers?

Thanks.

May want to check with marrenmiller marrenmiller ...seems he has some experience:

They hold up great, in my experience. The only thing I like to do is replace the Teflon washers with phosphor bronze, as Teflon can rip over time if you run the pivot too tight or get dirt in the action. For the AD-10, which comes with a set of PB and a set of Teflon washers, I replaced the two pairs of washers with a single pair of .25"ID x .5" OD x .015" thick PB washers. I expect a lifetime of smooth sailing after this.

I believe my American Lawman and Recon 1 were also .5" OD x .25" ID x .015" thick PB washers. I couldn't get my Ultimate Hunter to work, nor my SR1, with PB washers. It seems the examples of those that I've owned have had some odd issues with the spacing for the washers not being consistent, so you basically need to use teflon as it can compress as needed to fill the space better.

USAKnifemaker will sell you the washers. Just buy a handful of each thickness and OD/ID you could possibly want, as they're very cheap and you might need to try a few before you find the best fit.

Use a caliper to measure the blade stock thickness and the gap between the scales where the blade sits (use an average of the top and bottom of the gap, if there's a significant difference between the measurements).

Thank you so much! This helps!

The most common washer size is 14mm OD and 6mm ID. Total thickness is 0.25mm. This is for regular size knives with 6mm diameter pivot pin such as AK47, Recon1, Espadas series, etc. Also we have knives with 5mm pivot pin, having the same thickness of washers but 10mm OD and 5mm ID. All knives have (2) PB and (2) Teflon washers.

We do not send them out, you would need to send the knife in or source replacements like said in above posts.
