Greetings everyone I've been a looking time lurker and decided to go ahead and join since I love sharp things and shiny things. Anyway I recently purchased a Gerber Silver Trident and since its kinda impractical to carry every day for self defense I am wanting to replace it with a folder. And I have narrowed it down to two knives (unless someone cruelly can suggest another) the Fox Specwog and the Fox meskawki trakker. Thank you all for your insight and opinions beforehand.

I would recommend anything from Cold Steel, Kershaw, Benchmade, Spyderco or Zero Tolerance instead.

Boker plus has a blade with a similar profile to the specwog which I like. However the blade is smaller and my OCD about blew up when I saw the blade doesn't have equal amount of material on both sides.

The two Fox folders you mentioned along with the rest of them can be found at Fox Knives Military Division folder. Fox also makes knives for Combative Edge, Wilson Combat, Tops, etc. They mostly use the venerable N690CO blade steel.

The Fox FX-500 TRACKER FOLDING KNIFE “MESKWAKI” is a beast with a 5.3" blade of N690CO weighing almost a pound that comes with sheath to carry both in open and closed position. It has a secondary lock. I have the one with the green micarta handle.

The Fox FX-310 SPECWOG SPECWOG ALFA FOLDING KNIFE DESIGN BY DEAN ROSTOHAR has quite a curved blade with a secondary lock.

My main source for Fox Knives is ExtremAddiction.

These are my Fox Knives folders:

The two models you mention are large knives, have a big profile, and are very heavy as far as folders go, so it may not be super practical for daily carry and carry during warmer months when clothes tend to be lighter?

Are you looking for a knife for daily usage as well as self defense? In some instances, two smaller folders—one for utility and one for SD—can be more practical than one larger folder which may not have the features to make it best-suited for both uses. For example, something like a Waved Spyderco Matriarch is a SD-only folder, and light, thin, and very flexible in carry options despite still having reasonably good reach and excellent characteristics for usage as an edged weapon.

Cold Steel makes the Spike line, which is also another very practical carry option, but still with a sizable blade. A push dagger may also be another option if the goal is something that is practical for carry in a variety of situations where a larger knife may not be.

Might I suggest the Fox Deimos? It's less expensive, lighter, has a bit more practical blade profile, is still quite large and it just about has to be more pocketable than either of the options you mention.

I am in the Security field so this will be for self defense. I love the profile of the specwog and how it can be used to "hook" limbs in combat. However I like the extra length of the other but I'm not sure if its more of a utility knife due to its different grinds. Also I have no problem with large or heavy knives. I'm six foot three 290lbs. And for everyday use I have a SOG Trident.

Also I'm well aware that a two or one inch blade can be extremely effective. However I'm hoping that the profile and size of these two knives would be a deterrent if I ever had to draw them. I looked at the raja 2 from cold steel but I'm pretty set on these two. I think after I can pick one of these I'll also get a benchmade 810 as another edc to replace my sog.

That's something I would carry outside of work :D however I just have a feeling it would not be welcome at work. The trakker is pushing it at 5in.

You may find The Spyderco Civilian video very useful by Keating if you like that style model. It contains a lot of very practical information on the usage of a blade as such.

I bought the Rajah II strictly on impulse , I never expected to carry it. But it's not that big in the pocket and of all the knives I own with a "wave" type opener, it works the best. I actually carry it a lot and I know if I need to open it fast, it will come out of my pocket and snap open. It never fails to deploy.

Thanks everyone! Orders will be placed next thursday. First purchase will be specwog followed by spyderco civilian then trakker and one day maybe raja 2.
