Hey guys, new to forum here and just wanted to here some recommendations for a new edc knife. Currently I'm looking at spyderco's pacific salt and endura4. I like the aspect of H1 steel in the pacific salt but I'm wondering if I'll regret not going with the VG-10 in the endura. I've considered some others (and will continue to do so until I decide) but after seeing so much support for spyderco here I think must be doing something right. Thanks for the help, Max

No experience with Pacific Salt or the steel used in it, but I love the Endura and VG-10. VG-10 is one of my favorite steels, takes a really nice edge easily and and holds it pretty well. I live in a hot and humid area and do not have corrosion problems with it. Just occasional care now and then seems to be all it needs.

What's your budget for this knife? And intended purposes?

Knives I own that I'd recommend for EDC purposes: Spyderco Paramilitary 2, Spyderco Manix 2, Benchmade Griptillian, Benchmade Rift, Kershaw RAM.

Knives I don't own that I'd recommend: Spyderco Endura or Delica, Benchmade Presidio, Benchmade 710, Buck Vantage Pro. I'm sure there are 100s more I could mention.

If you're worried at all about rust, Kershaws beadblasted finish might not be for you.

Ah forgot to add that in. I'd really like to keep it below $80. I intend to edc it and use it for landscaping and what not. Corrosion protection would be really nice so I could use it up in Alaska when I go fishing, but that's not as often as I'd like hence the reason I'm thinking of going with the endura. It Was recommended to me to buy a benchmade 940, which id happily do, the only thing holding me back is the price tag. I'm open to any other suggestions as well.

Good to know man I'd say I live in a pretty hot and humid area as well, thanks.

I take it you are looking for plain edge, I have all, pacific salts plain and SE, plus endura, I would suggest an Endura VG10 plain edge FFG over H1 for EDC, H1 is cool for running and water, However VG 10 is king with the Endura.

Best of luck,
Guy

I also prefer the plain edge. The couple of serrated or partial serrated that I do own, I wish were plain edge.

While I love my Benchmade 940, it isn't a landscaping tool.

You will be better served with a Spyderco of your choice. If it were me, I think that the Tasman Salt would make a good landscaping knife.

i would say the endura. i love my vg10 delica 3. i am in sfl n hardly clean or oil the blade and rust isnt an issue. if u plan to take care of it i would go with what cuts and holds the best edge. i rather add a few drops of oil then sharpen a knife.

i love vg-10.. .its one of my fave steels. as long as you rinse it with clean water and keep it dry corrosion shouldnt be much of an issue with it.

The Delica/Enduras are hard to beat. You drop your Carbon Fiber handled knife, and it hits a rock or bounces off your lawnmower, and that little scuff on your pretty handle is going to sour up your day. The FRN handles on the Endura/Delica just take abuse with a grin. Plus, a nice Delica 4 with full flat ground blade (and 'yes,' I have two) can be had for real short money. Think I paid $54.00 for mine and got free shipping to boot. Plus, you can get it in purple, blue, green, grey and brown handle colors, which is definitely going to be less threatening to your civilian customers.

Thanks man I think I'm going to retire my crk m-21-14 to the landscape work. The veff serrations work really well for grabbing stubborn roots and small branches.
