Need help deciding! Pretty please.

Purchasing a new Spydie for my birthday, no particular uses or needs involved, just want a pretty new knife.

Cannot decide between the Caly 3.5 (laminate ZDP189 blade) or the Sage 2. I'll likely buy the other one next, but which one will make me just say "WOW", and be the bestest birthday gift for myself?

(or.....a plain Jane DF AND Delica 4 AND an Endura?? I don't have ANY "lower end" Spydieknives!)

Laminated zdp is my all time favorite steel. I have a caly 3 with its original edge from over 5 years ago, have used it lots for small tasks and the thing is still stupid razor sharp. The handle also takes well to carrying, smooth and does not get marked up. Ive owned both sage 1 and 2 and they just seemed a bit chunkier for lack of better words then my calys so never much carried them, eventually sold em. That and Im very partial to Japan models. Was carrying them for many years before Taiwan models (less salsa) came out so Ive just not taken to them like many others so I am a bit bias.
 
don't have either but the one I'd buy personally would be the Caly 3.5 ... there's something about the Sage series that I just find a little bland, especially the all-titanium Sage. Obviously, everyone's tastes are going to be different, I just never really got into the full Ti lockbar thing
 
I'd recommend the Caly 3.5 if a PM2 or Domino isn't an option...or a Sage 3/4. The 1/2 are good knives, but just don't appeal to me the same way that the 3/4 do.
 
From the title I was going to say military...

Choosing one of two spydercos when you have no preference for either is easy though. Heads=caly, tails=sage

I'd pick the sage since I'm not a lock back fan myself.
 
The Sage series never really cranked my tractor so I never bought one. I have the Caly3 ZDP and it is really nice. The carbon fiber scales are very subdued; not at all like those on the Sage and Chaparral.
 
Everyone who likes spyderco should own a delica and a military. I don't think you'll be disappointed in any of them though. :D
 
Delica will be next, and I clicked on "check out" half a dozen times on the Cruwear Millie at BBS, but kept changing my mind....I have giant hands but really love the size of my PM2's/Manix 2/Gayle Bradley....they seem the perfect "fit" for me.

So, just finalized an order at KW for the Caly 3.5 laminate ZDP189 and also a BRG lightweight Stretch, also in ZDP189. I think I'll love these two! (even though the back lock isn't my "most" favorite)

I'm excited, spending my birthday money was a lot tougher than I thought it would be!

You did a good thing...Happy Birthday. I've had quite a few Sage 2's and Caly 3's and 3.5's, and you'll be a happy person while you're saving up for the one you didn't buy....
 
Congrats on picking up the Caly 3.5 CF. That one is also on my wish list (the Caly 3 CF is currently my favorite Spyderco knife). I expect the 3.5 will be just as awesome. The BRG Stretch should also be a good knife. I think Spyderco does back locks better than anyone else. You'll be very happy with both of these.

Since you picked up the Stretch, maybe you could have just gotten the Caly 3 instead of 3.5.
 
I changed my mind after ordering...called KW back and my new black Southard arrived a few days ago.

Howz that for a 180!
