So if the title was a tad confounding, I'm trying to make a method of depicting all knife patterns, however there are far more then the 20 slots allotted polls via vBulletin.

The best manner I can think of is two, two week polls. The first choosing Pen or Jack style knife for the next month, then a list of whatever was chosen pattern. Would people be willing to participate in this many polls, or am I over complicating a simple and fun idea that seems to be a fast growing tradition?

Brets, good thoughts but it might complicate things a bit. I recommend we keep it simple, and if folks need a waiver to adjust to their own unique circumstances, they can self-grant themselves one, no need to go to higher headquarters!

Been thinking about htat as well. What we should have is the pattern of the month decided for a year ahead maybe. May: Peanut. June: Stockman and so on. We should cover the basics first, aka Barlow, Trapper, Toothpick and so on, and then go over to perhaps more elaborate or elusive patterns.

I avoid going to higher headquarters at all costs.
I really wish I knew what that meant...

Somewhere there was an old thread that some folks were working on that was a pictoral listing of the major traditional patterns. It was a very interesting (and ambitious) project and they had a really nice start going. Just looked like they ran out of steam.

That seemed to me to be more of a controlled wiki sort of project, not a forum thread project. The value of the thread, which could have become a great sticky, was in it's well formatted and thought out structure and listing. With threads, any body can jump in and you loose control.

In any event.... IF you can find that thread (I will try to look for it later) and IF you could work out something with the moderators whereby a small committee of our most knowledgeable folks could finish it off (or at least take it up to, say 25 patterns or so)....

THEN the TotM could just cycle through the list. Heck, if you could get it up to 36 entries, we'd have something like a pocket knife lectionary.

Actually, just by myself and a little googling I had already brought it up to 30, didn't add things like center swelled jacks though because any "xyz jack" seems kind of generic to me. And just leads into all the combinations like a saddlehorn Trapper, or that scagel sodbuster.

If anyone is interested here is my list so far, I'm sure the higher ups can add if they so wish.

I kinda think you're/we're overthingking this. There are already tons of threads discussing various patterns:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/757826-Stockman-roundup..-Lets-see-em...

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/706189-Any-love-for-Trappers

and on and on and on.

Just stick to a simple "Traditional of the Month" ------------ and let it go at that.

There is a search button people can use to find a thread on any pattern they need to know about.

You started a poll in another thread. For July, just go along with ONE of the top two poll winners. Keep it to the basic patterns - the sub-patterns will show up in those basic pattern threads.
