Need help deciding ...

Hi all;

I'm planning to pick up another GEC (second one and last one for a while) for pocket carry. I have a 33 ebony whittler, which I've decided to stash away for my son. I'm interested in either the "new" 15 single spear (with nail nick) or the 92, both in ebony. I'm drawn to the sterile looks of both of these (no shield, no etch, etc.), but I can't seem to decide between the two. To be fiscally responsible in my case, it has to be one or the other. I like the slim, sleek looks - very aesthetically pleasing - as well as the all steel construction of the 15. On the other hand, I like the straight edge of the coping blade on the 92 as a complement to the belly of the spear. I also am a bit taken by the handle shape. For reference, I have a Victorinox Manager my keys, and a CV Case Sodbuster Jr. in my bag. I realize I probably can't go wrong with either, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to politely ask for opinions.

Thanks in advance!

Both are great knives. I don't think either will dissapoint. I can't tell you which to get.

I can say that we were talking earlier about Andya 27's yellow bone TC Barlow Boy's Knife and he did the same thing you are talking about with the Conductor, but the question arose: Do you think your son will like Dad's knife that he used or a new knife that has been kept put away?

I have both knives, the boys knife sees more use. It is my EDC, the 92 stays at home. If I can change the coping into a sheepsfoot/wharncliff, I'll try it out as an EDC.

I can't say one would be better than the other... other than I'd prefer one with 2 blades (and they both can be had with 2 blades) but I wanted to mention that the barehead #92 in ebony is also all steel.

If the #92 is a user and the issue is the pointyness of the coping blade in the closed position then I suggest taking some sand paper/sharpening stone and rounding it off. I had to do that with my #33 Conductor with coping blade before I would carry it. Once you take the point off, its basically a small sheepsfoot blade.

My vote is the 15 single spear, I have the older style of this knife with the long straight pull and it's been my EDC for months now. I love the size, the thinness of the single blade style, and the spear point has proven to be perfect for my needs. I love it so much that I'm actually looking to replace it with a very similar custom knife to make my permanent EDC blade (not to say the GEC is lacking in any way, it's not, I just like customs). I like this new style even better as my nail doesn't fit into the long straight pull as easily as I'd like, the standard crescent nail nick is a more comfortable design I feel, though maybe it doesn't look quite as cool.

I a carry a green bone 92 for edc, never really warmed up to my boy's knife. The spear and coping combo will do just about anything you would ever need to in an EDC situation, my coping blade is a dedicated pencil sharpener and the spear is more than capable of any fruit/food cutting task I've ever given it. The sway in the handle makes it feel really good in hand. I may have to give my 15 another chance but the 92 will definitely not disappoint

Also, if you really want a single blade knife, the #92 is going to be coming out in single spear and single wharncliffe configuration in a month or two. Not sure if they'll be all steel though.

I want a hard used lockback that's very old school. I was thinking the Buck 110 or 112 or a Case Mako. Please tell me what you think is the better choice

Thanks for the replies/suggestions, everyone. I went ahead and picked up an ebony, single spear 15 from the recent run (with nail nick). Just got it on Monday. Will post some photos at some point.
