Need help deciding

Hi guys and gals,

I'm new to BF and have recently discovered CRK. My wife and I are having our first born soon, he's due in June but I think he's ready to come already haha. Well I've decided I want to buy him a CRK Sebenza 21 that was boxed and has a birth certificate the same day he is born and I would like to get his name engraved on it, as a gift for him when he's older. I know this task will be next to impossible as I've emailed CRK asking what I can do to accomplish this and they have told me my chances are slim to none. Regardless I'm going to try to do this and I'd like to get one for myself too because I have read nothing but great things about these knives. My question is should I get a small or large for him and should I get the regular or Insingo. I've been reading and just can't decide. I want him to be able to use it if he so chooses or he can display it if he wishes. What are your ideas? Any info would be helpful. Thank y'all!
 
If the birthday of the crk is your main concern, I wouldn't sweat what model you get. Focus on just finding the bday you need. I find that most uniques have their birthday displayed on some knife sites. Also put up a wtb on the forum here so that people can check their knives for the bday. There is a post here where you can also post the bday you want. Then just be patient and hunt the for sale adds. You can always engrave it later, once you find it.

i like the small for everyday carry. Large for special carry.
Figure if your gonna give to him when young, small would be it.
Older, large would be cool. I remember being in 10th grade, all I wanted was a big knife.
both blade shapes are cool!

First of all, congratulations on becoming a new Dad!!!

I just did this for my son. It really wasn't that hard. All I did was wait until a couple of days after he was born (it was actually a week or so). I called CRK and asked if any Mnandi's or small inlay Sebenzas were born on my sons birthday. They were able to tell me what was made and who the dealer was that received them.

One thing though, CRK is only open Monday through Thursday. If you kid is born on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, the knife won't exist.

My vote would be for a Mnandi or small inlay, but they don't make every knife every day. I would jump on what is available.

They can't just let you know what they're finishing that day, and sell you one that isn't already spoken for?

I was going to ask them, closer to my Birthday, if they could do the same for me. I'll be disappointed if that isn't going to work :(
 
Just be aware that if the birthdate is on a Fri, Sat, Sun. they are closed and none will have that date.
If it were me doing this- pick the blade style you like and get a small for the newborn and a large for yourself

Yeah I emailed them and got 2 emails back one said call and ask if they have an extra and that they tell me what dealers they sent them to, so I can hopefully get one the other said it's basically impossible. It was from two different employees there though. I'm going to call when he's born and see if they have an extra.

Yeah I was thinking I like the regular sebenza the most. I like your idea with the large for me and small for him that seems cool. Thanks for the heads up on their 4 day work weeks!
 
They will not sell you a knife from that day. Every knife they make is already sold, daily builds are all back orders.

This is correct. You will need to wait until after that date and then you will be able to find out from CRK what was made and which dealers received the knives. Good luck in your search!
