Need help determining screw size

I have a knife with some buggered screws I'd like to replace. So far, the manufacturer hasn't been helpful (no response from their webform yet). All I need is the size so I can order new screws. It's not any of the common sizes listed in knifemaking catalogs.

The shaft is approx .095" (hair under a tenth). Wouldn't this be about a #3 size screw?

I counted the threads. It's 1/8" long and has 7 or so threads in that length.

Given that info, I think it's a 3-56 (unless it's metric

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Go to a good hardware store and see what nut fits the thread. This will tell you whether it's English or metric threads and exactly what size it is.

Otherwise, you're going to have to invest in some thread gages!

I think you're right with the size because a 2-56 screw is .083. Size 3 screws come in 48tpi and also 56tpi, so you might want to get some of each.

most knife screws are either 2-56 or 4-40/ however if you do what Mr Anderson says it will solve any doubts you might have.

I didn't even think about using nuts to determine the size. I'll give that a try tonite.

Initially, I assumed it was 2-56 and ordered that. They were too small.

I checked a 4-40 and it's .1110.

Thanks. It's definately not that big. If it's english, then it's a #3. Just heard back from the manufacturer. They won't tell me the size, they want me to send it in. I'm not sure it's worth the trouble. Maybe I'll send it in if I'm heading to the UPS depot for something else, but I'm not making a special trip there (a good 10 miles from anything else I frequent). In the meantime, I have other knives to ruin
