Greetings all, I am doing this as a favor to a friend... he needs a folding knife with preferably better than 420HC. Other needs... should be a med sized knife (2.25"-3.5"), says wants "wood or antler" handles (may not be possible) and should be in the neighborhood of $100 or less and available online.
thanks all,
Mongo

You may wish to look at the Spyderco Kiwi with jigged bone scales and a 2.5" blade of VG-10. I have one and really, really love it, it is a classy little item. Roger at KnifeWorks has them for $93.73. He also has the all stainless steel scaled one for $49.98. There may be better prices out there, but Roger has always given me the best service that I could ever want.

An SS Spyderco Endura (or any SS Spydie, for that matter) will take a family monogram or crest nicely on one of the scales, makes a solid, personalized gift that'll serve him well until he hands it down to, well, your friend.

The new BM assisted opener has a nice antler handler, price is near a c note, iirc

A Queen Cutlery knife would be an excellent idea. Definitely in your price range, available in traditional/natural materials, and classy enough for anyone's Father. This place has a good selection of Queen knives: www.cumberlandknifeworks.com

Or I'm sure your friend can find something suitable here: www.agrussell.com
The Gent's Lockback is available in stag for $95 with ats-34 steel.

Best Wishes,
Bob

Kabar Dozier Thorn in D2 for just over $100 or a Spyderco Veile 2 folder in VG10. Both around the same price.

Finding a knife in handle materials of stag for the price you stated may be next to impossible.

Spyderco Kiwi (VG-10), w/jigged bone scales.

Any number of Queen models (D2), w/a number of handle options.

Seki-cut's little blue folder, a number of scale choices (wood but no stag, as far as I know, (laminated VG-10).

...(traditional,tactical etc)-but offhand BMGriptilian(especialy D2 Cabela's/RitterGrip) and Spyderco's Endura,Calypso and Military come to mind.So many good choices though. ;)Oops read too fast-the gentleman's taste are known(wood or antler grips etc)

Another Kiwi vote. I got one for my wife's cousin who is retired and he never fails to take the knife out at parties and proudly show people. It was the stainless steel version which was less costly.

Thanks all for your replies so far. Here's the list I've compiled for him so far:
Fallkniven U2 lockback
Spydie Centofante III, Viele, Kopa, Kiwi
William Henry lockback cocobolo or green jigged bone.

I have never met the man the knife is intended for, or how/what he will use it for. I did mention slipjoints, but I haven't received a reply yet. Personally I like the Queen D2 slippies.

Keep 'em coming, I will probably send him one more email with choices. As far as sites, I told him to check out www.knifeworks.com first. Roger has always done good by me. Plus, he lives very close to Bayou LaFourche.

I will tell you that if he doesn't mind the plastic or FRN scales, then the hands down, best buy for less than $100 is the Spydie Native with the S30V blade for $59.35 at Roger's shop.

I just pulled out a bunch of 'old stock' Spyderco knives to play with, but from what I've seen here the new ones seem just as nice if not better...something about G2 just floats my boat though...lol

Here's another vote for the Queen or S/M slip joints. Father's day means traditional, antler or wood are both available along with very good quality and materials.
