Need help finding a folder with a certain feature...

Hey guys,

I was looking at knives (one of my new favorite hobbies) and came across a Gerber Remix. What I really liked about it was that it was a folder (a must for me) with a big hole near the blade for your index finger.

The problem I have with it though is that it is a Gerber. I can't even find what kind of steel is being used and I have heard mediocre things about the fit and finish. Does anyone know if there is another knife out there that is higher quality but has the index finger hole feature? I know an Emerson Karambit has a similar feature but with the hold near the end of the handle. However I'm looking for more of an EDC type of knife that isn't designed for reverse grip, but rather a standard grip like the Remix.

Thanks in advance

Looks like the Gerber is close to 440a steel. I'd stay away from it. Offhand, I can't think of one like that from Buck, Spyderco (except the Caspian fixed blade), Kershaw, CRKT, or BM.

Hopefully others will chime in.

Welcome to BFs btw.

Thanks Gazz. Hopefully someone will know about a knife that works similarly... I really like the concept.

A friend of mine has one of those. It has rock-solid lockup, pretty good fit and finish (both of which are pretty unusual qualities from what I understand about Gerber folders), although the steel isn't anything special, as gazz98 mentioned.

Honestly, if his is anything to go by, it seems to be a pretty solid knife. If you can't find another blade with that feature, you might consider giving the Gerber a shot. I'm afraid I can't think of a similar design...

He said that a folder was a must, but I have a remix and your right it is a cool concept, but the blade steel is questionable, and the fit and finish is not very good, it is really rough to open and close and just a relatively low quality knife, I too would be interested in a quality folder with this concept.

I appreciate all the input guys. I do like the La Griffe and similar models, but if it isn't a folder I just won't carry it much at all. It sounds like this concept just isn't common in a folder. I wonder if a custom knife maker would give it a go?

p.s.- I love this forum, you guys are all awesome!
