Hi all, tomorrow being my 21st I decided the money from my birthday will be used on a good knife. and I have a few ideas in mind, the following are my only specifics:

- REAL deer stag scales
- Good blade, acceptable edge retention
- no more then around $60 USD give or take
- nice smooth liner lock system

the Joker Deer Stag Liner Lock Knife - NC-12 is one that caught my eye...but after searching here I only found feed back on their fixed blades so I'd like to weigh up all my options.

Thanks guys,

Rob

 asking a question here, the discussion isnt how much i got for my birthday...

...I'm open to any maker folks, but I'm limiting what I spend on it.

Robert if your budget could stretch , you may want to look at Buck's PCKS . Custom 110 ,choice of steel and they do carry stag.Happy 21!

Just my oppinion but I don't think your going to find a quality knife that fits your criteria. You can easily get a good knife for $60, but asking for a good knife with stag at that price is just asking a little too much these days (stag has gotten more expensive it seems) I would either look at something like a Benchmade Griptillian or Spyderco Delica/Endura and forget the stag, or increase your budget some if you can.

Also, you will not find many production knives that are linerlocks and have stag, those two things just don't go together very often. Slipjoints and lockbacks are easy to come by in the $100 range, but linerlocks with stag are somewhat unusual.

As for the knife you mentioned, I have never heard of it and like you said you couldn't find anything on here about it....that typically isn't a good sign IMO. If it's a quality knife chances are we've talked about it here.

India, which is where lots of stag comes from, has an embargo. So most of the stag you find now comes from small supply in Europe.

I agree with the custom Buck 110 idea, even though it's not a liner lock. It may top $100 though. Happy birthday!

Thanks guys, I'm willing to have other types of locks...I'll hold off a bit and look into the buck knife, I own a older model buck fixed blade (cant remember the number, but its a smaller model with cocobolo handle) from the gun shop. awesome piece...I didnt think i'd get anything decent with the price I posted, eventually I'll bite the bullet and buy custom :D.

Cheers guys...

Sounds like yours is the Cocobola Woodsman. I had that one some years back too and I wish that I haven't sold it. What holds u back from Buck, though? It well deserves your second thought on it. I am having a come back for its classic line lately. On the custom 110, or the regular too for that matter, to me it's the Ford Mustang, Colt 1911, Levis 501 in knives. Pay attention on the custom 110, though, it is very likely that once u got it, u will put it as a safe queen and use it for opening letters only because of its beauty, then u will probably get a production 110 for all the hard work - if u like the model as much as I do. :)

Yeah woodsman I'm pretty sure is on the box which I got stashed somewhere...who would be the best suppliers that ship using USPS international? I mean my buck i've used literally carving deer antler on a damascus blade a friend sent me, but the 110 i've seen at the gun shop and nearly bought one of the plain ones...heh I cant go custom in regards to a custom one off smith, but the buck custom sounds good to me.

and dont worry, I have a custom fixed blade that seems to never see anything except maybe cutting an apple and opening letters...I know how it feels ;)

Case are also options for me...I'm going this weekend to the knife shop I frequent, they have buck, case, SAK's, Benchmade and then your regular chinese cr@p.

But I'm also gonna wing it and grab the Joker knife, I found a few reputable people on here who handled their knives (and one uses a fixed blade joker as his EDC) and gave them alot of praise for the price. Not a collectable or custom, but it fits the bill for what I had in mind. But I could afford a buck or case to get my knife buying moving along. I got a feeling this year will be fruitful in the steel department.

I also collect swords, in fact done so before knives so the whole knife world of makers is new to me. but one thing I learnt from the sword addiction is try new makers, I've been supprised by a few production companies. Then again I've been disappointed too.

cheers guys...I'll let you know how things turn out, post up some pics in the gallery.
