I would like some help on finding a knife. My father's a leather smith which means he works with leather. But in this case (Being the fact that I'm not sure what else a knife could do with leather) For cutting leather. He wants a fixed blade that could last him for quite a while. It has to be at least 3.5 inches. It also of course has to have great performance. And recommendations?

There is a cold steel pendleton mini-hunter on the trading forum: 3.5", VG-1 steel, rubber-like handle material, good repututation.

Opinel paring knife.
you want something really thin to limit drag.
1/16" thick is good
3/32" isn't bad
1/8" or more can be tough to use in thicker stock.
My favorite leather cutting blade is a Warren Tool handle with concave curved blade. (basically an exacto on steroids)

Not really what I'm going for but I'll be sure to check those out later. I was thinking something he can carry around with him as well as use for work.

The hunter is 4". The mini was listed in trading forums by diamdave yesterday at 1030pm.

Check out Blind Horse Knives nice handmade fixed blades and very nice prices and tons of styles. I would suggest the M.U.K Modern utility knife or a Work Horse normal or small.

Wolf Trait, I wrote DiamDave about the Mini Pendleton Lite for you. I offered him a trade for the knife. If I get it, I'll send it to you.
I will keep you updated.
I expect no money or knives from you. I have an extra knife laying around that just may strike him, so if he takes it, I'll let you know. When I get it, if he's okay with the trade and everything, I will then ship the knife to you so you can give it to your Father.

Until then, keep on with the great suggestions guys.

Visitor message incoming as well.

send an email to Battle Creek Knives (he has a new maker's subforum) -- he's fairly new, but back In Dec/Jan he had some bandsaw blade material he was making small knives out of -- that works well for leather cutting and is wide enough it would work well for other duties, too, if he has any of that steel left.
The knife I got from him was necker sized, but the sawblade would work well for something in the 3.5" blade, 7.5" OAL range.
Takes a good edge, has decent edge retention, and is easy to resharpen.
