I live in EU and my country has a very restrictive knifelaw. To carry a knife legally in public it has to:

- Be a folder

- The blade (ther WHOLE blade - from the stock) must not be more that 7cm (2.7") long

- The blade must NOT have a locking mechanism

-The blade must NOT be "one-hand-operatable" (meaning that you must use both hands when opening and closing it)

These 4 rules really thins out my options.

But I hope someone has a good idea for a nice and reliable folder.
I'm not really into the "plasticlook" of the swiss army knifes but any help would be great.

Thanks

Welcome!!! There is a lot of pocket knives and single blade "gentlemans" folders that would probably fit that bill. Sorry to hear about the lock restriction, that is more a safety device to me, but it does really restrict your options more than any thing else.

EU? being european union?

that really does take dowm your options. maybe even a leatherman will fit? also that would be safer for you than a plain non locking folder since you will have something to stop the blade from closing all the way.

I have a swisstool spirit plus (love it) so no need for a leatherman. We can own most knifes (both big and with locking blades) but we can NOT carry them in public.

And since I'm looking for a good knife to keep in my pocket all the time it has to be as described in the first post, to be legal to carry around.

Thanks for any inputs. And yes, EU is Europe

So far the Fallkniven is the best (and only) idea - but any more will be greatly appreciated.

Almost any traditional pocketknife or Swiss Army knife would be legal. Your required specs sound exactly like the sort of knife that American men have been carrying for over 200 years. All you have to do is pick one out.

I don't know what brands are available where you live, or which dealers might ship to your country. But Boker, Hen and Rooster, Victorinox, Wenger, and Opinel are all quality European brands you should be able to find. If you can find one, I'm a big fan of the vintage Bruckmann knives from Germany. The older Giesen & Forsthoff knives seem to be very well made also.

Happy Shopping,

The UKPK has a 3" blade and opens one-handed.
That's why I pointed to the Danish Pen Knife.

Thanks a lot.

The Danish Pen knife looks to be one-handed too - but worth a look.

I think I will opt for the U1 Fallknive - I've read great things about it. The blade lenght is listed as 62mm - does anyone know is that is just the sharp part (edge) or the ENTIRE metal piece that folds out. Messured all the way from the grip?

Thanks

Stinger, the Danish Pen Knife has a "Spyderco hole" for identification, it's a company logo, so to speak, but it's deliberately too small to use to open it one-handed.

The Fallkniven blade length is the full length from tip to handle, in accordance with your needs, the entire metal piece/blade that folds out.

couldnt you add a shim inbetween the blade and the spacer/handles to creat more friction so it is harder to open? or is the law "designed" as aposed to "functions"
