I'm looking for a headset that has the following:

  1. Wired, not wireless
  2. Noise cancelling headphones
  3. Noise reducing microphone (boom style preferred, but open to suggestions)
  4. Can hook up to a cell phone (I have a Palm Treo 750 if it matters)

The main purpose will be able to take phone calls while working in a noisy environment. So, it should block noise at the microphone too.

If it can also work with an mp3 player, great...if not, no biggie.

Any suggestions?

I've found a few names doing simple google searches...but have had a hard time finding comparative reviews...

Thanks!

Dan

Sonys have a good reputation.I'll check some Ham sources and see what I can find.Headphone/mic combination are another possibility especially aircraft type....Here are some tests [some are reasonable , some not ] . It' also depends on what the use is and what it's hooked up to -communications [limited frequency range] or audiophile [full frequency range]. www.eham.net/reviews/products/9

Mostly I want to be able to work and talk at the same time...and hate "bugs" (in-the-ear headset earbuds). Otherwise, I'd just get a Jawbone and be done with it. But don't like those at all...and prefer to be somewhat cut off from outside noises (headphones).

If I can get a set that will also allow me to play my mp3 player...all the better. But I have a good set of earbuds already...so it's not a necessity.

I'll update the list above...

My experience is that the microphone quality on those type of headsets vary greatly
I've gotten ones that the mic sounds like complete crap
I think it's because the "element" is so small on those little mics
I haven't bought any in a few years
Maybe the mic element technology has gotten better

I use Sennheiser headphones and I have had no complaints
Here is a model like you are looking for

I know a lot about headsets for computers, but im not sure about them being compatable with a phone. Any idea of a price range? Like knives and almost anything else, the more expensive the headset, the better the overall quality.

I tried the new generation of Bose QC's but didn't like them. They have to have the noise cancelling activated to hear music. When flying, they make you turn it off for take off, so you can't hear anything.

So I got the Sony's. The noise cancelling is just as good and I can still listen to music w/o the noise switch on. They cost $100 lesss than the bose, too.

Well...my budget is open..I want the right one....cost comes second.

FWIW...I use Shure SE310 earbuds with my mp3 player...
