I've been watching this forum on and off now since I was overseas, and ive tried searching for what i was looking for in the search box, maybe i didnt put it in the right terms for the search or something, but I need help finding a knife thatll be a keeper. I have a buck 110 that I can get to hair shaving sharp, and it has ok retention, but my biggest issue is I REALLY want something different. Specifically, I would like something similar to a kind of slimline trapper design, in 1095, i would like it to be in stag or buffalo horn or ebony wood (i like the way the black looks with the nickle bolsters), i know stag isnt black, but hey lol, itlll get me by. Another thing is I would like it to be around 4"....anybody have any idea where I could find somethingt like that, and yes ive done research on looking around on the forums and the internet for something very close to it but to no avail, so please dont tell me to search for something, ive already looked. For example, If i could find a GEC Ben Hogan 1095 (Northfield/Tidouite) thats black on nickle silver, id be more than please, also I like the look of the primitive bone handles. For a while i was looking at a moore maker trapper but i decided against it. Oh and I forgot to mention i would like only a single blade. Thanks for any input I greatly appreciate it

GEC has single blade #48s with Stag (should still be a few out there) and just came out with the Templar with Black Micarta. They are 3 7/8" I believe. Pics of mine below. I'm not sure of other production 4" slimline trappers with 1095 and the scales you're looking for.

If you go to the GEC website you'll find a page wth links to their dealers. At least one of the dealers has a Ben Hogan in ebony.

C'mon, don't torture the poor guy, shoot him an email or visitor message and save him the anxiety. ;)

If you can find one in a handle that suits you the GEC #48 is definitely a solid choice.

Put up some images and a review when you have the opportunity.

No problem Lucus, happy to help. I think you replied to the visitor message. If you're looking for a stouter knife, "a good carbon steel 3-4" work knife for mostly general purpose use like cutting tape on boxes, whittling sticks when bored, cutting other object open, some hard use purpose knife", GEC also has the #23 Pioneer at 4.5" closed and #73 at 3.75" closed in 1095 in both trapper configurations (clip/spey, think Remington Bullet Trapper) and single bladed. They have some with liner locks too. There are also the #72 Lockbacks if you can find them Luckily, GEC is coming out with Spear point versions right now. Lots of options out there...

I think you'd be happy with a GEC knife. They have a slimline trapper in different configurations, and there are some ebony Ben Hogans still available as well.
