Hello!
Thanks for finding my post, hoping you can help.

Years ago my uncle bought a knife that has been his standard carrying knife ever since. He doesn't remember where he bought it and has never seen another one like it. Any markings, brand, names and numbers have long since been rubbed away.

The nice thing about the knife and why he uses it is because of the built in clip. In the handle it has what I can best describe as a seat belt clip, the end of the knife is the female end and the male end is a little plastic clip that, when inserted into the end of the knife, forms a button. Press the button and the knife comes free of the small 2" lanyard that is attached to the plastic clip at one end and a key ring/caribeaner at the other.

The plastic clip finally broke and we've been searching everywhere for a replacement or a replacement knife with the same mechanism, but with absolutely no luck. Stores don't seem to recognize it and online searches are futile.

Has anyone ever seen this kind of knife and know where we could get a new one?

Thanks

Even though the mechanism seems fairly unique, pictures would definitely help. And possibly a rough time frame when it was purchased. That might help narrow down what it is and if it's still in production somewhere. If the company is defunct for the last decade or longer it's unlikely you find something similar because it's a good indicator that it didn't catch on. And I am sure you can easily fashion something similar with a production knife that is easily optainable since practically speaking all you need is two pieces of paracord and a clip. (At least that's how I picture it.)

It's not a Schrade Cliphanger by any chance?

Oh my god... exactly what I was thinking.

My history of hating that particular knife is very well documented. It absolutely shocks me when I see somebody say they like them. Biggest dog of a knife ever to be sold by a reputable manufacturer.

Aw, come on. The Gerber Paraframe is even worse.

No sir. No way. I’ve had both and the Cliphanger is the clear winner of the golden turd award, IMO of course. The paraframe would at least function as a knife in a pinch.

I’m sorry, but I have a long, drawn out history of seething hatred for the Cliphanger. I’m talking posts going back almost 20 years. I just can’t stand the damn things.

The Cliphanger is made of an actual steel that will take an edge; the Paraframe will not, under any circumstances. And the Cliphanger isn't actively dangerous in your pocket; the holes in the handle of the Paraframe are large enough to let a finger slice right along the blade even when the knife is closed. Paraframe is worse by dint of being actively dangerous even when not in use.
