I'm trying to find a replacement for my well used and much loved Gerber Mini Covert. I've owned many better/more expensive knives (and still do), but this one always makes it's way into my pocket.

(Also, I know that the Kabar Dozier Thorn is probably the best "upgrade", and I've debated it for a long time, but I just don't know if I want to go with an aluminum handle.)

Here's what I'd like:

~3" blade, will go down to 2.75, but not up to 3.25.
G10 handle (if possible)
Narrow PE blade
Lock--I'm happy/comfortable with the liner lock, but open to suggestions.
Pocket clip

All that being said, my perfect knife would be a G10 PE mini covert (I've even debated asking members here to create G10 scales to fit my mini, that way, if I wear out a knife, I could just go buy another and switch out the scales. I may still do that, but ~$60 for a set of scales doesn't make much sense to me.)

What do you guys think?

Spyderco Caly3 and Mini Manix both fit that description, but are lockback, blades could be a bit too wide for your taste too

The Spyderco Caly 3 was the first knife that came to mind. For less money, the Byrd Meadowlark G-10 is also a great knife.

I've owned (and traded off) a mini-manix. Great knife, but too big for what I wanted.

I'll have to look into the Byrd G10 knives.

Ah, I completely forgot about Byrd line, the Meadowlark should be the right size for you.

I just looked up the Meadowlark. The length is right, but the opener hole makes the blade wider than I'd like (I know, I'm picky).

I like the dagger/stiletto profile blade, or something similar...

The Al Mar Falcon is interesting, and maybe the Benchmade Pardue 856.

THere's a cheap Boker Magnum stiletto (and I mean REALLY cheap). ANyone have any experience with it?

Habit--

I briefly looked at that one, but ruled it out because I thought the blade looked too "stubby".

The second pic you linked to is making me reconsider...

My only hesitation is because of the handle material. Have you personally held this one?

I've found that not all FRN/Zytel/"plastic" handle material is not equal. My Gerber feels strong and solid, almost like smooth G10, whereas every FRN handled Spyderco I've held feels cheap. If I had an idea on this one, maybe. If it were made of G10, it would be the one!

You might want to consider the G10 Leek.

I actually prefer the regular SS framelock version the best. The handle is pretty slender , so it's pretty easy to grip securely.

The blade reminds me of a cross between a stiletto and a Wharmie.

The BM 530 doesn't have a stubby blade at all. It has a thin yet stiff blade. The handles may feel a little weak in the hand, but if you try to twist or bend them, they don't give much because they have the stainless liners. It is pretty solid for its size. It is a cool design, one of the few knives I couldn't bring myself to use, it just looks and feels too good, it is on my BM display. I plan on getting another when I can.
