i just bought my first convex edged knife. i bought a bravo 1 knife and have never sharpened this kind of knife before . i have other sharpening systems but nothing for this and i don't want to ruin this knife. could some one tell me a descent strop and about how much it would be. all so any advice on sharpening this knife would really be appreciated thank you

2 Great vendors for buying a strop that immediately come to mind are "Handamerican and "Lee Valley". There are also a couple of shaving websites that I can't remember their names off hand that also carry the strops made with Russian Boar skin that I have heard are great.

You might also check the Forum here under the General category in the Razors, Scissors Forum. There are a lot of guys there who are very familiar with who all sells those items. Don't forget to get some compound like the green chromium oxide. I have a strop that I keep treated with compounds and I also have one with plain leather that I keep softened with Propert's saddle soap.

I bought a decent leather strop from ebay for £4.95 (about $10) which came with red stopping paste... gets my knives super sharp.... ;)

Alternatively, use an old leather belt and some metal polish

About a week or so ago I raised a similar question and followed the advice to buy one from Lee Valley. It arrived last Friday. Once I got it I had no idea what to do with it, a phone call to Lee Valley took care of that as they were very helpful in instructing me how to load and use it. It isn't cheap but it sure is nice.

If you have a Tandy leather store near you, they have loads of pieces of leather you can glue to a piece of wood....
or.....
If you're near a Hobby Lobby, they sell these packs of scrap leather for $5.99. There's quite a bit of leather in there of varying sizes, mostly about 6 to 8 ounces in thickness.

If you get your own leather, you can make several strops (some with smooth side out, others with rough side out) until you find what works well for you.

I recently purchased some Bark River knives and have been learning how to sharpen and strop them. The Bravo-1 is next on my list.
