I am one of the lucky elite who are privileged to own the single most versatile and user-friendly 2x72 belt grinder on the planet, the Wilton square wheel grinder! 🙄
Since it's probably the only grinder I'm ever going to have I need to keep it alive in order to make knives. recently my tracking wheel went screaming kicking and thrashing into that dark night.
I've looked all over the place and can't find a tracking wheel to fit my grinder. It looks like the original was about four and a half inches in diameter with a 6200 bearing.
Oh that's not quite true I looked and looked and I did find an original equipment wheel for 1.75 million US dollars or something like that that's a little Rich for my blood I'd like to be able to pay normal prices like the rest of you who have normal grinders.

Looks like Jet is making it now...
Here's Jet's part number for the idler wheel SWG272-21 and here's their phone # 800-274-6848.
I found the info on southern-tool dot com's website after searching Google for "Wilton square wheel belt grinder" they've got a manual with parts diagrams and numbers and all that jazz.
I'd be surprised if the Wilton is substantially different than the key version, they look exactly the same...

The parts diagram for the idler assembly from the manual is shown below. Maybe you could turn a new idler pulley shaft (part 4-4) that accepts a more readily available (cheaper) idler wheel with 1/2" ID bearings.

The "crowning" could just be a product of the molding, I suppose.... it's super subtle.
This look right?

This is all very interesting. I have had a square wheel grinder for almost 40 years. I also need a tracking wheel. The original tracking wheel is paper thin on one side.
Mark, if you have two, I could sure use one. I will PM you.

Mark, I just tried to pm you but I am not sure it got through. Please let me know if it didn't.

guys
several years ago i needed a idler wheel.. i looked everywhere .. all suppliers , e replacement parts , jet/wilton .. i mean everywhere..
finally i called "Bader" and ended up sending them every measurement you could for these .. diameter/bearing size/id/od width .
i bought a couple replacement wheels from them before at "Bladeshow" and am very happy with the quality i got as well as the price i paid..
you might want to check with them..
for the record there are 2 sizes of idler wheels.. 1 is bigger diameter from when "Wilton" was the Tacoma grinder company.. those i could only
find on e-bay .. but they would not fit my machine so i gave it to another local maker that had a much older machine than mine and needed it badly.
