I made this sheath this weekend:

It is my first leather project ever - and I think it turned out pretty well.

I need to find, however, the proper rivets and eyelets for these sorts of projects:

I called JRE and they are willing to send me a few 7/16th's length 3/8th width eyelets, which would be perfect - but I want to find more without bothering them.

Also - I need nickle plated rivets that are long enough to go through the triple material on my sheath. The sheath is a little under 1/2 inch but I would like the rivet head to be no larger than 3/8th inch.

Please let me know where I can go. Tandy only sells large headed rivets or small length eyelets.

Thanks,

TF

That is a beautiful sheath with way above excellent workmanship..............

PLEASE DO NOT adulterate it with rivets and eylets. If the mall ninja in you just has to have a leg tie down, then just punch a number 7 hole in that triangle at the bottom and run your thong through that. Rivets will NOT add meaningful strength to your stitching. The addition of the hardware will only degrade the looks of the sheath.

Yes, I am considered somewhat of an expert on sheaths and I did play one on TV and I also stay at the Holiday Inn Express.

Best Regards,

Paul

I agree that style sheath looks much better w/o the metal stuff all over it....
I stay at Red Roofs....

Okay - I should have - and I could now - Stitch further on the top of the sheath to add strength. I think I will rivet this one simply because it was planned - but I am taking your comments into the future -

Does anyone have a supplier for these if I were to add these to the sheath?

Rivit--------------isn't that what a frog says?

Joking aside, the sheath you show here is a testimonial to beauty being achieved without the help from the frog.

TF, First, a standard double cap rivet available from Tandy/LF will do the job at the top, and at the same time detract from your beautiful work, or you could add one more stitch at the top of each row and blend it in for double stitching for three or four stitches, or you could just leave it as is, because unless you plan to hang your full dead wieght from the mouth of the sheath those stitches will hold until hell freezes over just like they are. (In other words if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Know when to stop)

Once again....Great Job!!!

Paul

PS: that old guy, Swivelknife who posted just above me...........well when he talks, be sure to listen, because he's already forgotten more than most of us will ever learn and he's a prince of of man on top of that!

Thanks. I have been looking at some of swivel knives work - and I think he is exactly right. I see his with a rivet and without - similar design and I think that it does detract some.

Mostly I listen to him - because he is from Michigan. I am from Kalamazoo originally - we have to stick together!

Okay - I ended up restitching the work due to pulling the idea of rivets and grommet tubes.

Here is how it turned out:

and just for fun - I tossed in an eyelet temporarily just to see - you be the judge!
