"Stickys" are threads "stuck" at the top of the page. Usually good information or regularly used threads.
The other very useful tool is also in the top of the page stickies - it is the custom search engine. Put in any topic you want and it will pull up all the past threads on that subject.
One thing to be cautious of in looking around the site ( especially with other searches) is you may see a thread and reply or ask a question, but the thread is many years old. We call this necro-posting. If a thread is more than a couple months old, it is best to start a new thread and ask your question, and link the old thread in your post.
