Need Help for a Sheepie Sebenza

I have been sucked into the knife abyss. I started with Spyderco, moved onto Benchmades and now I am looking at the top: Chris Reeve.

I like to carry a knife for everyday utility but I have gotten strange looks and comments from people when they see a black handle with a 3" blade. (BM943, Spydie Delica, you-name-it). What can be done to a small Sebenza to make it look harmless?

I know it's a tool, but there are a lot of folks that think of any knife as a threat. I want a non-threatening top quality folder. Thanks.

I've never had any problem with any of the small Sebenzas I've owned. However, the best reaction I've ever received from non-knife people has been when I've showed them my decorated "Solar Wind".

I would imagine that any of the decorated (silver contrast or otherwise) or inlaid Sebenzas would fit the bill of non-threatening.

Hope that helps,

Matthew

I have never had a bad response to the Calvary or the Wood inlays....

edited because I really need to proof read my posts ....

Yup, basically any of the small "dressed up" Sebenzas would be sheeple friendly, like a Calvary design, any of the computer generated graphics versions, or a wood inlay. Another option would be to go with an Umfaan or Mnandi, if the smaller size fits your needs.

Get a small Stars and Stripes Sebbie. Hard for any true American to look down on one of those.

Good grief, Paul!
You're seven and a half feet tall!

In your big hands a regular Sebenza
looks like an Umfaan in mine!
On little things like this depends a
reaction to a knife so fine!

And by the way, Starfish,
I don't mean to diminish
what you've said,
but my large Sebenza tanto
is polished and engraved, so
you'd think it wouldn't mess with a sheeple's head --

but it does!

WorkForALiving, enjoy whatever Sebenza you get. Even the basic undecorated version, especially a small, tends to get overlooked a lot more easily than the "tacticals". Even though Sebenzas are tough enough to match most emrgency situation needs as well as the more plastic blades out there :D

First carry a Project 1 or 2 for a week or so and then nobody will even look twice a the sebbie. :) :)

You have an excellent point there about me sir, however the reverse is true for yourself. For a tiny man or "little person" that tanto sebenza probably does look like a katana in your hand to a sheeple.... :D

Actually I do not know why you are picking on me heres a picture of my large Wood inlay sebenza in my hand.... :)
wheres your umfaan in yours...

THATS A LARGE BENZA?

Your joking right? :D

With hands like that you cound turn a one piece into a folder!:) Remind me not to upset you Paul!

Don't panic, General! I met Paul at Chris Reeve's table at a New York Show. I was buying my Umfaan and Paul showed me his Mnandi. Amazingly, he was able to hold onto the tiny knife ... I think he uses some type of glue on his fingers to handle our size gear.

I wish I could find the picture someone took of Paul in back of a group of us -- but they altered the picture to make him look as if he really was about seven and half feet. :)

General- this is the pic Esav was talkin about... you could probably guess which is me... I'll let you guess who the little knome lookin' guy in black is.... didn't know they'd let kids in that show :D

duhhh... might help to add the picture.... I have been laughing way to much this morning. Great memories about great guys....

flippin eck tucker

I have just tried the "sebie in the hand gag" and my small matches up almost exactly.

I have big hands and am generally not a small person, 6'2" (are those symbols the right way round?) and about 230-240 pounds.
I am going to try my hand with a large sebbie tonight

There ya go, standing on that milk crate again!

(I'm the little guy in front of his right shoulder, and Ken Collucci is in front of his left. They snapped the picture just as I leaned over to tie a shoelace or I'd tower over all of them :D)

Esav Benyamin: It's the fact that it's a tanto, I get the same reaction to mine. Most people only see that blade style in samurai movies, they only see it as a weapon.

Bagman: you got the symbols right;)

lunumbra, the red paracord lanyard I tied on it doesn't help, either !! :) Actually, my family and friends are used to me, and I don't generally wave my knives around in front of strangers. I figure if I keep the blade length under 6" they'll be glad it isn't any worse -- so of course someone gave me a sword for my birthday ... I try to carry it unobtrusively, but it sticks out under my overcoat
