Hello everybody, i want to add a "kukri like" knife to my collection and i want the best steel available.

My choice are between this two knives, Busse Killa Zilla II made with INFI steel or a Damascus steel kukri.

From what i heard these two kind of steel are stronger and more durable than other kinds.
But perhaps i am wrong i do not know much about steel..

What kind of steel you think is the best, do you have any suggestion please?

Thank you.

for a large knife? from what ive seen infi, its toughness is almost unparalleled and doesnt busse have one of those nice if you break it we replace it warranties?

my understanding is that true Damascus Steel is typically rather low on the Rockwell scale. If you're only going to "display" your new kukri, then Damascus would be great and would probably look fantastic. However, if you ever intended to use it at some point, I doubt that it would hold up to any kind of hard cutting. Stick with the more durable steels for that type of use.

INFI all the way.

Damascus is a very very generic term. Who made the damascus? What steels were used in its composition etc. How was the damascus made? There are dozens and dozens of different kinds of damascus out there from many different makers.

I have several pattern welded damascus fixed blades that are great knives but I own them for there beauty and less there utilitarianism.

INFI has a proven track record of being a very tough steel with a phenomenal warranty. If its in your price range to buy a Zilla I would say go for it. If not I would say check out HI (Himalayan Imports) as they make some fantastic Khuk's in there own right.

If you are talking about the Jason Knight Kukri in Damascus then I'd skip on the busse. If you want to use it I'd buy the Busse....

Sorry i forgot to say it's for hard use, never for display :jerkit: :p

Well i always thought that the damascus was one of the most toughest steel ever made for knife..

Petr Dohnal seems to make good damascus knives, but for me the quality is better instead the beauty, so if INFI is better than damascus, i'll take the Killa Zilla

Here are some of is damascus knives >

Pretty good knives..

Thank you for your suggestion but i own already an KUK from HI (Chiruwa Ang Khola) and it worth every penny ! ;)

I'd say that if you can afford the Busse go for it. Love to have one but WAY out of my price range.

Heh.. me too.. but i'm single actually, so i can buy it  :D

Anyone heard about S7 steel or have comment about it?

Some people claim to be better than INFI

No, Damascus is not "one of the most toughest steels ever made". Neither is INFI, although it is better than Damascus.;)
You might want to edit out the jerkit before Esav sees it.

S7 is a fine steel if toughness is your primary attribute.

Infi all the way if use/abuse is the plan.

Unfortunately we still have the crossover in names between two different types of damascus steel.
The Damascus steel of legend is modernly known as Wootz and Russian Bulat.

Then we have common pattern welded steel.

Pattern welded steel is just two different steel types folded together, and will just be a mix of the properties of both.

The Damascus steel of old, otherwise known as Wootz, was originally made in India, then the middle east. Wootz is a homogeneous steel with visible banding.
J.D. Verhoeven, A.H. Pendray discovered how to reproduce this in the 80's and 90's.
Russian Bulat, based on Wootz, was first made in the 1800's, then similarly lost and rediscovered in the 90's.
Though production methods may vary, the end result is very good.

Getting a Khukuri made of Wootz would require a lot of time and patience from a willing blacksmith. Bulat would more likely just be hideously expensive.

On the other hand INFI is up on the website right now.

S7 is tougher than INFI but won't hold an edge as well. And INFI is more corrosion resistant.

infi is a real consistent product. some wootz & damascus can be high performers but one poor weld ruins the integrity of the knife. most forgers agree that a good 52100 will out perform any of the finest damascus. damascus is for beauty [some strength] & homogenous alloys are for performance.
