I didn't see anything in the rules saying I couldn't do this. So if I am out of line, will a mod just contact me and close the thread or move it to the appropriate sub-forum.

Do we have any certified paramedics around here that would be willing to answer a few quick interview questions? I only need two participants and the questions are almost all yes or no questions. If you are interested in helping a college student out by take just a few min out of your day it sure would make a difference.

Below are the questions I need answered by ONLY certified paramedics that answer yes to the first three questions. If you can not answer yes to the first three questions please stop and do not submit a reply to the questions.

Please keep in mind you may answer the questions here or Via PM.

Has the demand for Paramedics inclined since you first gained employment? Difficult to gauge. There is a tremendous amount of turnover in this profession. We are generally better trained, with an expanded scope of practice when compared to nursing professions. We however enjoy lower pay and less professional esteem (opinion). This is largely due to the political clout of the nursing profession (nurses, and nursing boards have been around a long time and unfortunately, they have historically been called upon to advise, form policy, and generally shape the scope and role of a paramedic. Because their first priority is nursing, they ensure the role of a paramedic is subverted to the role of a nurse. Couple that with the demands of being a paramedic, and there is a very high burnout rate. Most medics either obtain advanced medical degrees (PA, MD, DO, etc.) or they focus more on advancing in Fire/Rescue. There seems to be a regular fluctuation of glut to need, with an overall slight need that has seemed to increase over time. I think as healthcare evolves in this country, especially with the obamacare mandates regarding re-admission, you'll see an even further expansion of a Paramedic's scope with even more viability. BUT, you'll also see a concurrent decline in wage allocation due to medicare reimbursement cuts. It's an interesting time in both pre-hospital and interfacility EMS. Though I'm skeptical to consider these changes to be likely positive.

Would you say there is more of a demand for related fields of study (MFR, EMT, AEMT)? More? No. Similar

If given the opportunity would you change your career choices as it pertains to becoming a certified Paramedic? Yes. Having been a medic for 16 years, my focus has been to get OUT of this profession for the last 5 years. My goal is to no longer function as an active paramedic inside 2 years from today.

Hope it helps.

@RSKT
Thank you so much for taking my little interview. This actually saved me a massive amount of time. Provided I get one more person to participate soon :)
Anyways thanks again. I am truly thankful.

If given the opportunity would you change your career choices as it pertains to becoming a certified Paramedic? Probably. I'm actually thinking about opening my own motorcycle shop as we speak. I'll probably always keep my paramedic license up to date, but I'm tired of the toll that being a paramedic takes on me and my family. Missing holidays, time with the kids, even really normal stuff like tucking them in at night really sucks. It has hurt my marriage. My sleep habits suck. Overall, it was fun when I was younger but it just takes away from other aspects of my life too much.
