I saw a Cold Steel Trailmaster with a satin finished carbon V blade and a stag(fake?) handle with a brass guard and butt.

Can anyone tell me about these? ie when they were made?

I thought that maybe someone on the boards is looking for this knife to complete a collection or something....

Thanks all

Nice looking but the stag handled ones I have seen are not a full tang. There is a short length of chain from the tang to the butt cap to compensate for the curve of the stag handle, so I don't know how they would hold up under heavy use. Carbon V is great steel though and stag sure is handsome.

Ah....you mean this one...

I bought this knife somewhere around 2000. That is about all that I can tell you for sure.

Now, what the Cold Steel literature said about it at the time was that they received a limited amount of Sanbar Stag (not fake) and were able to make a limited run of these. The literature also claimed that it was the same as the original Trailmaster with the exception of "modifying the tang to accept the stag handle." Not exactly telling you what they did, but I would be quite positive that it is not as strong as a normal Trailmaster.

One of my coworkers has a factory second of that knife. He loves classic knives with classic materials, so I'd guess it's bonafide stag.

That's the one! Thanks Brian.

Very cool looking though I'm not sure I would pay what this guy was asking.

Only difference is that the markings were not on the blade but in the riccaso. is that the right word?

right in from the of the guard

Do you mind if I ask how much he was asking for it? If you don't want to tell me, that is cool.

The only reason one might think this is worth more money, is because you can not get them anymore. Personally, I just sold this knife a couple of months ago. For the previous mentioned reasons, it is not a user to me. There are much better user bowies out there. So, it sits, and sits, and sits. After a while I begin to wonder what is the point. So, I personally sold mine, and bought more users (Scrapyard DogFather, and SRKW Camp Tramp).

I am not sure that I have ever seen a CS knife with markings other than where they are in the photos above. That seems unusual.

The guy who has it said he would hope to get 400-450 for it.

I have an old SRK and it's markings are on the riccaso also...

Oh ya. one other thing.

It had a zero edge. know what I mean? Convex I guess is the word.
