Okay, here's the problem. I have a dell Latitude 100L, which I purchased a year ago next month. At the time I got it it had a 60 gig hard drive with (I think) 256 megs of Ram, in 1 dimm, although you could get the same thing in a 2 dimm configuration. Well I found another 512 meg memory card , 184 pin type on the dell site, made by another company. It had a decent price though, so I'm considering picking it up. My question is, how do I know if I have another dimm slot open and if it's a 184 pin type. Also, are all DIMM slots created equal. I know it sounds like a simple question, but I'm not afraid to admit that I'm an absolute idiot when it comes to computer technology.
Thanks in advance.

edited to add: here's the link to the widget I'm considering.

What you are looking at is meant for desktop computers and the Latitude 100L is a laptop, thus it will need that fancy laptop memory. Here is some memory that will work for the Latitude 100L.

cool, thanks for the help. NutterR, that's exactly what I was looking for. K.V. thanks for your information and I suspect you're also responsible for moving this where it belongs, so thanks for that as well. Now for the second part of the question, how do I know if I have an open DIMM slot?

be VERY sure that you get the exact memory that your laptop requires. Laptops are incredibly picky on what kind of RAM they'll accept. I submit as evidence my old IBM T-22. It needs PC-100 ram. Now any normal desktop that needs PC-100 will take PC-133 and just run it slower, but not the T22, no siree. It will take ONLY the PRECISE memory that IBM wants it to take. Its obnoxious, so don't get caught with a gig and a half of useless ram, not that I've ever done that *whisltes*
