I'd sure like some help from someone identifying this knife. I just got it and it came in a pretty much destroyed box which is yellow with the Buck name printed (like on the blade) all over it in black. There's nothing on either end flap. I've not seen anything like it before in any of Bucks catalogs. Could it be a phony? Here it is with an Alpha Dorado.

Dave, I hate to be a downer, but that one screams "chinese clone". It has many of the details that make it look like a Chinese piece, but the biggest giveaway is the size - Buck never made a larger version of the Dorado.

An interesting piece nonetheless, but I can almost guarantee that it's not a Buck.

Jim, the knife came up before in another thread. I bought it knowing that it might be a fake, just to see it. I had no idea from the original picture that it was so much larger than the Dorado. It's thin, maybe 1/2" thick and very heavy. It locks up great without a hint of wobble.

It will be interesting having a genuine "counterfeit". :D

I think the size is very interesting. I would buy a real Buck in that size in a NY second.
Interesting piece to be sure.

"I think the size is very interesting."

I thought you would since you like the Alpha folding hunters. It's exactly the same length overall.

An awful lot of detail went into that knife...even that 5-hole blade pivot screw...and the painted graphic on the blade seems way too intricate for the Chinese...I have a Chinese SS folder in front of me, and it is no way near as ornate as that knife...

If it's a counterfeit, it's a high-end counterfeit...

The seller (not really a knife seller) told me that he had bought a few of these from a bait shop that was going out of business. The seller isn't a knife person and had no clue that they were possible fakes. He said he did wonder why there was no tang stamp or model number on either the knife or the box.

It's nothing we made. I was thinking last night, that it was a good looking unit. We might have to knock-off that knock-off.. lol

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. It's a pretty blatant ripoff of the Buck name. I'll swear that the logo's on the box are complete right down to the little circle with the R inside.

It is a pretty cool looking and feeling knife, just wish it was a real Buck.:(

I have been getting a few inquiries about that particular knife. It really does look snazzy but it is, as Jeff says, a counterfiet.

I've just been communicating with Phil about this knife and he asked for more info which I sent him. I'd also send the knife to Buck to actually see if you would like me to.

So when are you guys gonna start making a jumbo Dorado?:D:D
i'd be game for sure, my alpha dorado was carried daily for almost 2 years, one of my favorites for sure. And as was joked earlier it would be great to re-apply the counterfeits look to an official Buck knife. Its a shame that this happens to companies:grumpy:
thanks

Too bad these guys are name thieves, they probably could've sold this knife under their own name and sold a few if it works as good as it looks.

I've been in touch with Buck (Phil Duckett) and I'm sending the knife and packaging to them for their legal department to take a look at.

Maybe when they get it, wil decide that it would be a good idea to build an upsized Dorado. That would be cool.

I just mailed the thing off to Buck today and another one popped up on the Bay.

If the reseller had a US address the price bid would have gone WAY up...Even Buck nuts would have taken a chance...
