Need Help from Mini Skirmish Owners

A local store still has a mini skirmish on the shelf, and its probably been there a few years!

I was going to buy it for my collection, but the Frame lock is EXTREMELY hard to disengage. It could be that the knife simply has no lubrication anymore from years of people playing with it, but it seems far too stiff for this to be the case.

Has anyone that owns this knife experienced this? I suppose i could buy it and send it to Benchmade to have it checked out, but it bothers me a little to lay out that kind of money on a knife that i know is already not quite right.

Also, They are asking $150.00 NIB for this knife. Is this a fair price?

It's just one of titanium properties - it sticks to steel. Don't worry about it, in a short period of time it'll "break-in" and those problems will be gone.
$150 is not a bad price, since they've been discontinued for a year. Skirmish and Mini-Skirmish are solid knives, you won't be disappointed.

They had an MSRP of $240+ - I'd say $150 is a great price... grab it! Mine has a home.

If its stickin just take a pencil and write on the back of the tang where it meets the intregal lock and i should help the sticking. If the intregal bar is just too strong you can puch it back very slightly (bend in the opposite direction) until its comfortable. I did this on a few Sebenza's. You must be very careful not to overbend the lock or you can ruin it.

Like ROBB said, pencil lead (graphite) on the locking surfaces where they meet usually takes care of that. My experience with titanium frame locks is that the sticking goes away eventually as the surfaces wear in.

I am leaning towards picking this blade up,although i'm not sure what i will use it for yet. As always This forum is bad for my wallet :-)

I bought one even though I was a little unsure about it. I got totally converted. I love the thing. Great blade, great steel, great build quality, just a pleasure to use. That is a great price, too. I'd grab it while you can. Prices are going to go up on the Skirmish and Mini.

What the other posts above said is right - it will loosen up with some use and lube. I used a little Tri-Flow on the pivot and on the locking surfaces. Works great.

The lock will wear in. I personally prefer them to be tight in the beginning.

Of the 635 & 630, I prefer the 635 for it's easier carry. I do find that my pinky tends to slip off the curve on the handle though. Gigantic blade for a folder of this size.

I'd say $150 is a good price for a B&M price. I wouldn't say it's a steal.

I went back to the store today, ready to make my purchase, but ended up leaving empty handed.

I was willing to work with the knife and try the graphite lubrication technique referred to above to smooth out the lock operation. Despite the fact that I love the look, blade shape and construction of the Mini Skirmish, the deciding factor ended up being the opening hole.

It was just too hard for me to open the thing comfortably and quickly. I wish it wasn't chamfered. It looks great, but sure makes it hard to open. Oh well, it wasn't meant to be :-)
