So we are pondering what STrider folder might make a good permanent passaround. I participated in a SNG passaround a couple of years ago, but I don't know much about the other folders.

I'm leaning toward the AR, because it least expensive AND price wise right on par with the passaround sebenza we have.

What do you think?

And if you are a Strider fan would you consider sending a little money to help make this a reality?

I'd say the ergonomics of the SnG are more characteristic of what Strider is doing now. The SMF is just a slightly larger version of it. The PT is a smaller version. The AR/GB frame is blockier and may actually be too much of a brick for some people to handle comfortably. It's more like the original Buck/Strider folder.

Either SnG or AR will give the participants a reasonably similar feel for the capabilities of the line.

And I am not a rich enough Strider fan to help out on the financing! :D

BTT, maybe the people participating in the Strider V Spyderco thread can comment. :)

SMF seams to be the favorite of most.

The AR is my favorite.

You can't go wrong with any of them, but from what I've heard Mick says the the SNG/SMF is a more advanced design.

Since the blade is the size of an AR (i.e. big), but it is a frame-lock design just like the SnG, I would consider the SmF would be the best exemplar of a Strider.

Anyway, that's the line of thought I followed, and I sure like mine.

SNG all the way. No problems with blade length legalities. The knife is smaller than the AR and just as strong. It is the best of the daily carry Striders IMHO. SMF is a bit bigger, and the AR is best kept for the feild. You can always go PT and call it a hard core gents passaround. :D BTW why did you leave out the PT?

why did you leave out the PT?

My original goal was to get a Strider to compare against the passaround sebenza. Personally I like the size of the PT, but then we'd be comparing apples to oranges.

Here's the latest wrinkle, I have had a couple of offeres to sell a Strider for in the $315 range. Unfortunatekly that amount would put a pretty good whack in our budget. So I'm proposing trying to raise 1/2 through more passaround fundraising and using 1/2 from existing passaround funds.

Which means we could have a permanent (doesn't get given away) passaround Strider for as low as $158, which we'd have to raise.

God that would be great. I hope this happens, so more people can see what all the fuss it about. Dave you are cool for doing this. If it is the AR I will get in on it. I already have an SNG so I don't think I will if it is that or the SMF. AR or GB, I am in. :D

Why Mick has said the SMF/SNG is a better design there is NO mistaking the AWE factor when you first handle the AR/GB. I know I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face for at least an hour after I first recieved mine. This is just my .02.

I proposed this also in the passaround forum, it is basically hard to do fundrasing, so the best chance of making this happen is going for the least price model.

However, if MORE moeny is raised and we can get a more expensive one then cool. Sometime later today i'm goin to go through my stuff to see what I can sell.

Buy a slightly used SnG or SMG.
You can get a SnG for less then 375 and a Gen I SMF for around 400, Gen II SMF for around 425-450.
