Need help g10 tube issue

First time using a g10 lanyard tube and I’m having trouble finishing it. The cloth in it seems to keep hanging around so it won’t get an all black finish. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Any help is appreciated. You can see it in this video
 
The spalted maple looks great. One thing that might help is superglue to harden the fuzzies so you can sand them off, if that is the issue. I can't really tell from the video. They make black superglue, that might work even better if it wicks in a little.
 
Thanks. Ok I’ll try the super glue. Yeah tried just kind of counter sinking it with a drill bit but that didn’t work, neither did sandpaper rolled into a cone.
 
Sorry to hear the glue did not work for you. Is there any chance what you see is fibers from the buff and not the micarta fibers fraying?
 
Use thin CA and let it wick into the fifers and dry fully before re-sanding. Apply it more than once if needed.
 
tell us your grit progression, and i assume you are using new sandpaper ? if you still have 150 grit scratches in there, it could show up as whitish areas, next time try the 45 degree alternate sanding directions everytime you change grit, like you hand a sand a blade, to make sure all the previous scratches are gone. then there is always the possibility that you are sanding correctly, and the white is just in the material all the way through the tube.. in that case i would wipe it really well with acetone, and color the white with a black sharpie.

Of course that didn t work , lanyard tube have not flat surface so drill bits don t catch all surface and it bounce on first contact and make mess...........try carbide burr ball shape on max. speed you have .

I was actually planning to pick up some g10 tubing, since I have really disliked carbon fibre for this application. Following with interest.
 
I think this time around it was the buffing fibers. But then after I cleaned it up there was still like some light gray areas. I just gave up and took a sharpie to them. Looks uniformly black now.

I rolled up 320 then 400 then 600. Ended up going the sharpie route.

`That gray areas are glass fibers .With drill bits you delaminated glass fiber from epoxy .That s why you can t get rid of them .They are flexible/free and is hard to sand them down...

No, Micarta tubing works and sands easily. It comes in a variety of colors. You can buy it from industrial suppliers as Garolite.
